Cab length steps comparison

I’m looking at steps for my 19 Silverado Crew and wondering if any one brand offers more protection than another. Also, has anyone had experiences with any steps that had a higher or lower quality than expected.

If by protection you are looking for a running board that stops the junk from hitting the truck then those running boards stop very little.

I will make one suggestion no matter what you buy.

Get frame mount running boards not rocker panel mounted ones.

I have these,

Any running board thats full width not tubes will offer more protection.

Very good input. I’m really looking for protection if I drop a wheel off the hard path and a rock finds the bottom of the cab. Being all aluminum I figure the truck will look like a Fruit Roll-Up. I think these are called rock sliders in the jeeping world.

frame mounted vs. non wasn’t something I’d considered yet. That I will ensure.

They are not all aluminum.  Just swing panels so hood, doors and tailgate.  Everything else is steel still.

Even a frame mounted board, if the board bends enough or just right, it can still damage the rocker.

With frame mounted boards you will not damage the rocker panels if the board gets damaged.

Drop the truck in a hole or off roading and catch a board on something and it damages the board and mounts, not the rocker panels.

Rocker panel mounted boards are not as strong IMO.

I have a friend who is a big guy, 6 foot 5 and 320 pounds.

My frame mounted boards have handled this with no issues.
