Has anyone had success with using one add-a-fuse to power both a dash camera and a radar detector?  I'd like to hardwire them both in so they come on when the truck is turned on and turn off when the truck is shut off.  I'm not too worried about having parking mode or motion sensor enabled on the dash camera so I shouldn't have to worry about battery drain if I fuse it as mentioned.

Are they low enough of a power draw that I can use 1 add-a-fuse or do I need to have 2 add-a-fuse's in the fuse box?

Also there are a lot of kits on Amazon... seems like they all serve the same purpose but is there any reason to choose one over the other?

2017 LT Z71 for reference.

You're right, they have a very nice harness already set up with the extra leads for both applications on one add-a-fuse.

Thanks for steering me in their direction.  I sent them an email with a couple of questions so we'll see if I pull the trigger on this or not.

if both are rated for the similar power draw, throw a fuse-tap in there and be done.

Thats what I did.

I have 1 fuse-tap on ignition that powers my dash cams and on the same fuse, powers my locking console actuators.

Another fuse-tap that is on constant power feeding the dash cams as well (So it can record on motion while the truck is off)

After a quick google search. Appears a fuse-tap and add-a-fuse are the same thing.

Just check and make sure both are rated at similar amperage.

Now technically, you could void the warranty if either manufacture (dash cam or radar) place learns of the power sharing IF you’ve put in a larger fuse.

But odds are both are set for say a 2a fuse, but require much less to power it.

Just make sure if you have issues, you tell them it’s wired exactly like their install manual tells you. Haha

I have a BlackVue 2 channel dash cam (front and rear) and installed this to protect drain on the battery while in parking mode.

I have the same thing on mine. Works pretty good. I get about 6 hours of motion recordings once parked.

Worked great when my truck was broken into. I've thought about adding a secondary battery to help extend that time.

I have two batteries and have left the truck sit for 10 days straight and it's been fine - plenty of juice to record.  If you're going to leave it sit a while I would turn off the LEDs in the settings to converse a little power.

First off fuses should be sized by the size of wire they are protecting and the wire size should be chosen based on the load it is supplying.

GM already provides a very nice spot to tap accessories into that is rated for a large load. (not that a radar detector or dash cam is either).

In the drivers side fuse box there is a spade terminal you can put a connector on and then a inline fuse to feed your accessories.

(you can see the blue spade crimp connector beside the purple box fuse right next to the giant blue connector)  This spade provides rap power and is perfect for most accessories

I've got a dash cam, radar detector, 4ft of leds, and an extra power socket all tied into that single spot.

Thank you for this!

Is this compatible with other dash cams or BlackVue cameras only?  I'm not seeing much info on it being used with other brands.
