Auto down window not working

Hello all,

First time posting here.  Just picked up a 2010 Sierra 3500HD SRW 6.0L gas, SLE trim.  On my previous truck, an 08 Sierra 2500HD, it had the auto down driver window (honestly can't remember if it was auto up or not as well).  On this new-to-me 3500, the auto-down driver window is either not there or not working.  It's ever so slightly annoying since I rather like the feature and all of our other vehicles have that feature.

What I'd like to do is first verify that 1) this truck actually does have the auto-down driver window, and 2) how to fix it.

I did not see any RPO code in the glove box to indicate it has the auto-down window, but then again, my old truck had it and it was a trim level below this new truck.  And the new truck had leather, bluetooth, auto climate, backup camera, etc - ie, a lot of other convenience features that would make it seem odd to be missing a more basic one like an auto down window.  It also feels like the switch has two positions in it like an auto window would.  Of course, the passenger switch feels that was too but it does not auto down or up either.  Also, I tried the method of resetting the window motor sensor that has worked on various other vehicles - lowering the window and continuing to press the switch for a few seconds, then raising the window and and continuing to press the switch for a few seconds - but it has not worked.  I tried various lengths from 3 sec to 10 sec.  I hear a distinct click in the door after holding the switch a few seconds in both the fully down and fully up positions, but so far nothing has worked.

So, before I burn out the window motor trying to reset it, do I even have the auto-down window?  If so, what's the secret to resetting it on a GM truck?  Or, what do I need to clean or replace to get it working again?

Thanks!

AFIAK, only the Cadillacs have AutoUp.  A good scan tool that reads BCM codes will tell you what's wrong and why.  Without, you're guessing.  If you pull the switch assembly up, try cleaning the contacts.  If it was replaced or needs to be replaced, the module requires programming which you can pay a dealership to do or do it yourself with a Tech-2 and a subscription to ACDelco's TDS website to download the programming and install it into your truck.

I just reread your post about the "click", is that sound near the motor or the switch?  Maybe she just needs a new motor?

If you're going to keep this thing for any length of time and turn your own wrenches mostly, get the Tech-2.  About $325 on Ebay for one, make sure it has 33.004 software and Candi.

Thanks for the reply!

Pretty funny about only the Cadillacs having auto up.  My 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan with the middle of the line trim level has auto down AND up on all four windows.

Wow, I didn't realize Tech-2's could be had for so little.  Last time I checked (6+ years ago) i seem to recall it being a several thousand dollar investment.  I think my mechanic has one though, so for this one thing I may just pop in and ask him to see if there are any codes.  But I'll definitely look into getting a Tech-2 at some point.  What is the subscription to the AC Delco TDS site for?

Regarding the click, definitely coming from inside the door, I assume from the motor.  Almost sounds like something resetting or switching.

I still would like to know how to determine for sure if there's supposed to be the auto down window(s) in the first place, and then what the official GM procedure is (if there is one) to reset it.  I will pull the switch this weekend too and see how the contacts look.

Edit:  doesn't the switch assembly include the power lock switch, such that if it had been replaced and not reprogrammed, there would be issues with the door locks and remotes?  The power locks and key fobs all work, so I'm assuming it's not a case of the assembly being replaced and not reprogrammed before I got the truck.  Correct me if I'm wrong here.

The Tech-2 is a legacy product now, GM moved on to something else but the Chicom factory is still making and selling them.  The subscription is only needed if you need to do programming.

Read your owner's manual about the auto-up feature, I've not seen it in mine.  Gotta run...
