Center Console lock

When I bought my 2002 GMC, I didn't even take note that there was no key to lock the center console box. Anyone know where to get one? I imagine I have to get one from the dealer, silly question.

I don't think the VIN will help, I think you need the 3 digit number stamped on the lock itself.

My dealership told me you have to buy the lid assembly. Please advise if this is true.

I would imagine that would be true, I'm sure they just don't sell the locks because that is too convenient.

 

Have you tried to see if a locksmith can make a key for you?
