How To Clean Performance Intake Filter

Hi all!

 

So I have the Chevy performance intake, ( part number, 84016022 ) example: https://www.shopchevyparts.com/performance/2016-silverado-1500-performance-air-intake-53l-engine-l83/84016022-p-92288775.html

 

But cannot for the life of me find any docs that came with it, may have lost in the move. How to I properly clean the filter, or does it have to be replaced?

If replaced, does anyone know the part number?

I always take mine to the dealership to have it clean. They never ask any questions or etc.

Is it dry or oiled? Standard practice is using a cleaner like simple green and warm water - flush from inside out. Let dry. Pretty basic maintenance. If oiled you need the proper air filter oil like K&N that has the correct weight. Key is a very light coat and not to over oil and kill your MAF sensor.

 

Not hard stuff, now if you have no mechanical inclination whatsoever, then yes leave it to a professional so you don't thrash something. Simple stuff like seating the tube on the TB the wrong way or messing up the MAF can be really bad.

It’s the dry cone filter from the GM performance intake. I just thought I remember reading somewhere that they shouldn’t be cleaned and replaced instead...

 

I’ve actually never cleaned one, soapy water you say?

Warm soapy water, clean from inside out, let fully dry (they dry real slow- overnight or full day). Could even probably use dishwashing liquid. Just get a full rinse. Easy Peasy, Just make sure everything is seated properly and snugged up but not overtightened to where you pinch anything.
