E rated tires

Hey guys, I have a RST Crew cab that has the original 275/60/20 Goodyear trail runners. I am about to do a 2 inch level. I was all ready to order up some 285/65/20 ridge grapplers or bfg ko2's. I've ran larger tires on factories on all my vehicles. No issues. But for some reason the first thing both places I called for tire prices said was "You know those are 10 ply tires right?" I did but hadn't really thought about it. I see alot of you guys running pretty much the same tires give or take. Any problems? Harsh ride? Extremely bad MPG? Anything else? Or am I just being paranoid? I know it won't be like stocks but they acted like I was putting tractor tires on.

Mileage may go down some, you'll add 10-20 lbs per wheel in unsprung weight, the ride will stiffen up a little and LT tires use more air pressure than P-Metric tires so you may want to have your TPMS reprogrammed.  They're not really 10 actual plys anymore, but thick enough to be near impervious to road hazards.  Love my KO2s.

I am running the Terra Grappler G2's in an "E" and I was very nervous on the ride quality. I was running the same tire in a smaller size in an "LT" and I will tell you that the ride improved! I was shocked to be honest. Another member here did the same as I did first and he reported the same as I am now and that's what convinced me to make the change and I'm very happy I did. Now, I did go up almost 2" of sidewall so that may have helped some with the ride and I'm running 22" tires so that may have something to do with it as well. I'm running 36 cold PSI in them as is the other member and I'm very happy with the ride. As for MPG's, I never have paid much attention to MPG's, so I can't tell you if I took a hit or not to be honest, but I'm sure I did.

They are basically a 3/4 ton tire but nothing wrong with running them on our half tons.  Like stated above, harder ride and a heavier tire which will give less mpg but that is about it.  I run E tires all the time for the safety factor since there are times I kind of overload my truck and at least I know the tires will hold up.

I don't think E rated tires are going to change the way you drive. Just go into it aware that you will decrease MPGs in town and it will be a bit rougher ride. If you like the tires, you likely won't care about those changes.

But if soft ride and fuel economy were very important to you, you would probably want to select a P rated tire.
