Door handle install

Has anyone changed their door handles yet?

I have two problems. I bought some LTZ chrome door handles. I noticed when I took off the door and the door panel that the 4 wires from the LTZ door handles had a purple where mine had a brown. Didn’t think this would matter much, but when I tried to install them, the buttons don’t work. Can I just flash the ECU at the dealer? Has anybody changed doorhandles with buttons?

The second problem is honestly, I can’t get the damn thing back on! There’s a video on YouTube of a simple screw in/screw out torx bolt. But mine will not catch the door handle for some reason? I feel like I’m going crazy. What the heck am I doing wrong? Anyone?

Are you sure your new handles are for 2019 and not the K2? There is no “just flash the ecu” to get something to work. It’s not like they just check a box and something gets turned on. That, and most dealers don’t want to mess with programming customer added features.

As far as the handle goes, try using a small pick tool to grab the lever inside the handle opening and pull it out towards the outside of the vehicle, then slip the handle in and it will grab. They can be tricky sometimes to have the handle grab the lever.

They must be for the '19. OP says button doesn't work. The K2 didn't have the handle lock/unlock door handle button feature. I've changed several handles on my K2's and purchased a 3 piece pick set (orange handle) from Harbor Freight. A must to install as said above.

Yes, they were ordered from GM, LTZ vin number. 2019 chrome handles. I’m trying to put them on a LT Trail boss. Fit fine. Function is normal. They plug into the female in the harness perfectly and clip in securely. Buttons just don’t work. I hear a very high pitched “electronics” kind of noise For half a second or so (I know that is a dumb description but that’s the only way I can describe it) under the dash/in the truck when I push the button. But nothing happens.

I had a '16 SLE and purchased SLT/Denali mirrors with turns and puddle lights; Everything plugged in but they never worked. Tried more than 1 set. It was all in the BCM.

That’s kind of what I figured unfortunately. These dang things are expensive too!

On a separate note, I hadn’t watched a 15-18 video yet. And after watching one just now, the fishing string trick should work perfectly for what I’m trying to describe.

Yea seen the fishing string method. Both work. I had good luck with the pick. So what you gonna do about handles now?

i used .095 line from my string trimmer to get the handles back on my 16 LT.  I swapped them out for Escalade handles.

For your wires, I would see if you can find the wiring diagram for the two door handles.  you might have to just re-pin the plug

Not sure. I would hate to lose the function of the passive entry buttons. I got used to it and really like it a lot. I’ll have to research the wiring more.

I actually ended up getting it to work with the pick method tonight. I kinda feel like a dummy now for asking the question. Should have just watched a few more YouTube videos.

Thats a great idea about wiring. It’s a bitch to get it all apart, but if I figure anything more out I will be sure to post update. For anyone who is wondering.

Check with service mgr. to see if he can figure it out. If not they make some really nice chrome covers that stick with 3M and have the passive hole. An option.
