4-WD Push button actuator

I have a 2000 Silverado Z71. The push button selector on the dash has all lights lit up. I've swapped it out twice. It works for a couple of day then all lights come back on. When they're all on the transmission doesn't operate correctly. What else should I look for?

maybe check for codes?  you'll need a more advanced code reader.  I'm not sure if being able to read TCM codes is enough or if you need to use an even better reader...

 

If that doesn't report an error, then I'd pull off the encoder from the transfer case and see what happens if it's not attached (but still plugged in) when you turn on the truck.

 

Maybe also check out the plug on the encode, and clean both sides if necessary with electrical contact cleaner.
