02 Silverado 4x4 issues

I have a 2002 Silverado 2500hd my 4x4 isn’t operating or engaging properly. I replaced the front axle actuator I went threw the ground wire process now I’m down to the dash button or transfer case rebuild? I push my dash button and it tries go to 4wd but just keeps returning to 2wd. And suggestions will be greatly appreciated
