On-Board Surveillance/Dash Cameras

I've got a new 2019 Chevy Silverado Z71 Texas Edition with all the added safety cameras that came on the truck.  I've been researching dash cams for security and liability purposes.  It makes me wonder, with all the high tech abilities of this truck's camera system, is there a aftermarket system that will utilize the trucks onboard cameras for Dash Cam and surveillance purposes?

Good question but none that I know of..... I bought an after market dash-cam and had it hard mounted.

GM does it on certain Cadillacs via the Performance Data Recorder, so I'd imagine its possible but GM hasn't spread that ability down to other lines yet. 

 

If you pick a dash cam, Thinkware makes some nice OBD powered ones.  It has a second port that replaces the occupied one for attaching other OBD related items since the primary one gets occupied by the camera.  You download the app as well and that allows for full settings control on the camera(s).  I got the 800 model (?) with front and rear cameras.

True.  I also somewhat misspoke on PDR being the system Cadillac uses for their onboard camera recording.

 

CT6 has it via the 360 Surround Vision, a system that is on T1 trucks too...

That sure as hell would be nice.

 

 

Hopefully the aftermarket will come up with something. Personally I would like 24/7 recording with a sticker letting people know they're being recorded.
