Torque Converter, or whole Transmission?

Hey all,

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LTZ 4x4 with the 5.3 and 6 speed transmission. The truck has a six inch lift with 35 inch tires. I am the second owner, I bought the truck in April of 2019 with 86,500 miles on it. I added a Borla ATAK exhaust, a Volant CAI and the 91 Octane tune with a Diablosport Intune I3 Platinum tuner. I have only put about 2000 miles on it since I’ve had it, with zero issues until now. I’m 51 years old, I baby this thing big time, so it hasn’t been raced, mudded or anything of the sort. Last Friday,  I was driving on the highway with the cruise set at 73. When I came to a decent incline, the tach shot up to about five grand like it had been put in neutral. When I tapped the brake, it stopped. Later in the day, I noticed the shutter that everyone refers to, at around 40-50 mph. Something else I noticed was with the cruise on at 73 or so, the tach would fluctuate between 1720 and 1780 or so, quite frequently. After reading several posts here, I am leaning towards the torque converter being shot. I had the fluid flush performed yesterday (not at my dealer, they are currently on strike) and added a 2 ounce bottle of the LubeGard Shutter Fixx.  Still having the same issue. Trans temp seems to be normal, I don’t have any leaks of any kind, so really at a loss here. I did reload the stock tune into the truck, so I’m curious if anyone has had issues with a dealer voiding their warranty. I need to take it back and get it looked at, but I’m really worried about the whole warranty issue. Any input and or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m going to run it by a reputable transmission shop here in town tomorrow. Hopefully the news won’t be too bad. Keeping my fingers crossed.

see if the transmission is generating any codes (need a code reader that can get codes from the TCM).  the computer should notice if the torque converter or the transmission clutches are slipping.  you might also consider viewing live data for the rpm and transmission input and output rpms, to possibly see which is slipping.

Reputable trans shops are rare. There are many that can build and install them but the shops that know how to make them last and the tricks to them, there are few.
The adaptive part of the tune keep adjusting till it can't anymore. For most people they never know the vehicle has changed. For some they complain about shifting and the general feel being different.
