2018 wireless charging iPhone XR with case?

I have an iPhone XR with otter box case on it and the case makes it a touch too thick to sit down far enough to use the wireless charging. I took the bezel off the console and did some quick measuring and it looks like I need to take about .4 off total, about .2 per side. My question is has anyone done this and what’s the best/easiest way to do it? Dremel? Mill? File?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

Are you talking about cutting the case or the charger slot?? I wouldn’t cut either!! I have an XR, in a shock case (not an otter box cuz I hate how bulky and not pocketable they are.) but it works with the wireless charger. I just place it down and slide it to the rear and it starts charging. It might be the case in general. I’d check that before cutting into the truck.

I would like to cut the bezel. I don’t WANT to, but I want this to work. I do the same as you, and it must just be a touch too high. It will kind of charge on and off. Sometimes it will stay charging, sometimes not.

Have you tried letting one edge drop into it? I found that works on my wife’s phone (she has a bulkier case than I do)

Yea, I’ve tried what seems to be every combination. I’ve tried flipping the phone 180° also and same results.

Have you turned the pad around 180 degrees ?  The charging coil seems to be closer to the back of the console and in the "bottom" of the XR.

With the pad rotated 180 degrees from stock and the bottom of the phone slid as far towards the rear of the console as possible my XR charges fine in a Speck case even thought it does not sit flat on the pad.

See the picture below. The label is now at the rear and the ridge is at the front allowing the bottom of the phone to be closer to the charging coil.

Yeah I’d try a few more things before cutting anything. Let us know how it works.

I just tried it in the garage with the bezel pressed down, not screwed down. Same results as before. It will charge for the couple seconds then stop then start again. I also tried tipping the phone with the charging mat this way and that didn’t work either.

I wouldn't even bother with the wireless charger.  It is slow as hell and you can't use CarPlay with it anyway.

It is a slower charge, but I’m not worried about that. Also, car play doesn’t do anything for me.

How do you listen to music?  Welfare radio?  What about Nav?  Waze shows me the cops so I don't drive without it.

I listen to XM or if I’m listening to podcasts Bluetooth is the name of the game. Same with Nav, just let Siri tell me with Bluetooth
