i have a gmc sierra sle 1500 that didn't come with fog lights, so i looked in to upgrades and found out there no kits available, so i bought all the parts one by one, (note) all parts came from gm, I wanted it to be factory original.. bought the factor harnesses (the one that goes to the fuse box that controls headlight, fans, sensors, and fog-light connector, ect. and the fog light harness for the bumper, fog light assembles  the head light switch with fog light. so i go the the dealer to get the body control module  programmed, mechanic hooks it up and its asking for a download code, so the mechanic calls gmc technical support to get the code and was informed because it wasn't bought as a kit that its not authorized, ( again no kit available)  so the service dept gives me gmc phone  to there  GMC Customer Assistance Center and after going from person to person i finally get to someone that said they could help me.. i told her very that was said above and she said she would have to investigate it and gave me a service number . after a few day of feel like i had gotten blown off, i called my dealer to find out what was going on and found out that she had called them, so i figured she was on it.. so i waited no call... so i call the gm phone number again because i need them to be work for a trip on dark narrow two lane back roads that was a few days away,. could not get a hold of her,,, so i talked to her supervisor and while i was on the home phone with me she calls me on my cell phone and said she has sent it to a sale rep. to get a hold of engineering... ok least i know something is happening,  a few days later, while i am on my out of state trip she  calls and tells me the the engineer said it was not authorized because it did come as a kit...... now i'm pissed off.

Good way to keep customers.

Funny the saying goes, use genuine GM parts. He’d probably been fine using after market.

Sounds about right.

I had $100 in gmc rewards so I went to dealership and bought the center console organizer(which should have came with the truck) along with the driver side assist handle(which also should have came with the truck). The driver side assist handle comes in and I go to install it and it seems like it’s too short. Possibly a defective part of boxed wrong. Not sure. Go inside to the parts guy and his response was “your truck didn’t come with it your trying to add one that’s why it’s not working”. Really?!  So then tinted windows shouldn’t work, aftermarket wheels, a tonneau cover definitely shouldn’t work then. And it’s a gm part. Not sure what the problem is with gm.

I had many family members that worked in the gm plant in Detroit back in the days and I’ve been a strong supporter of gm products. Just wish they appreciated their customers a little more
