whistling when windows down, annoying

When I am driving my 2000 sierra on the highway and even still there on regular roads (less noticeable) there is a whistling sound. I have no bug guards or anything, it is all stock. Anyone know what is causing the lack of aerodynamics? I assume thats the problem. How can I fix this?

Is your truck an excab? If so there is a problem with the rear quarter windows. If your truck is still under warranty then there is a TSB to cover the wind noise problem...

Since you say it only happens with the windows down, it is probably the mirror. I had a truck that did that.

I missed the "Windows down" part somehow... Good chance that it is a mirror or another piece of body trim. Whistles are hard to find and usually involve having to tape off suspected areas and then test driving over and over.

probably is the mirror, but what can I really do about that? I guess if it gets too bad I could get new ones or something but that seems kinda drastic. Guess its something I have to live with then.

I'd check the chrome inserts on the backside of the mirror. Since they are removable it's a good possibillity that there is an edge sticking up enough to let the wind whistle... make sure they are good and flush.
