Who has, and quit cold-turkey, and who does and how so/ often?....

Always a strong subject. Just curious to see a show of hands and some stories possibly. :D Be honest!

I am not quiter! Seriously I am a drinker I like beer, I home brew it and it has not caused any problems for me or my family.

But if you want to quit you have to quit cold turkey. My good friend has faught this problem for 7 DUIs and he could never quit. He got hooked up with AA and got involved real deep. He has been sober for over a year. If you are serious and want help find your local AA and get involved.

My uncle killed himself by drinking, liver failure at age 54, and would not get help. He served 4 years in Vietnam in the Marines and seen some heavy duty stuff. He told me that his 1st tour while on patrol they came under fire, he was the only Marine in his squad to come out of the jungle alive. He was 18 years ol at that time and his 3rd day in country. Not saying Nam is the fault but it did not help his ind at all.

Get help if you need it. Do not be ashamed or anything like that. Booze has different effect on people. If you can't be responsible yourself than you need to seek a group that can relate and work with you. AA seems to be working fror my buddy and he is doing well in it, he host meetings and goes to these conferences and it has helped him tons.

Get help if you need it. May be the best thing you can do for you and yours. Better to get help than to got to prision or dye a hard painful death.

I dont need help, hehe, but thanks for being considerate... I drink some, yeh, but nothing i would ever consider serious.

This is more of a survey type discussion because its always a good topic.

Sorry about your loss, and much good luck to your buddy... Most of all thanks for sharing. :D

I quit about 4 yrs ago. Cold turkey is the only way to go! I was a beer drinker too and enjoyed brewing my own.

You will not quit no matter what groups you go to unless YOU decide it's time to stop. It's a personal commitment and you can't rely on anyone else to do it for you. Yes you can and should go to an AA meeting to talk with others that have been through it. That may help you. Mut YOU have to decide!

I enjoyed beer too much. It got to be too expensive monetarily and personally. So I just decided to quit! Good luck and I hope you make the right decision!

I am a drinker... I was a drinker, I guess. I quit after a small run in with the law. I learned my leason and have stayed away since. Although I contemplate every Friday and Saturday about starting again!!

I got to the point when I thought I was untouchable, turns out that wasn't TRUE....

Gotta stay away from that stuff it'll getcha :D

C'mon, just say it:

"MY NAME IS RANDY AND I'M AN ALCHOHOLIC"

You don't need to be ashamed just say it :fume:

It's usually time for me to stop drinking when I find it hard to walk correctly. I don't drink beer though, I usually drink whiskey.

As long as the beer is cold, I'll drink it. Never been into hard-A too much, but I'm finding I love wine now too.

Growing up my folks always came home each evening and had a few drinks. Needing a drink to calm down has always scared me, so I try and stay away from it during the week. During an average month, I'll probably have 2-3 beers once or twice a week and be sober the rest of the time. Every month or two I do enjoy a good bender however... :D

I'm strictly a beer drinker myself. It wouldn't be unusual for me to have a beer or two every day. I enjoy the flavor/taste of beer, and I would much rather drink a beer in the evenings instead of a Diet Coke. I don't get drunk that often, so I would consider myself more of a Conosour (sp?), then anything else.

My roomate in college was a Vodka drinker (big time). He's been sober for 6-7 years now and good for him that he realized that a Liter + a day was excessive and that if he didn't take control of it he would probaly die. He spent a month in the hospital "drying out". I've got alot of respect for him since he was able to kick that habit. :D

I usually drink three or four beers during the week and then hit pretty hard on the weekend. Beer, frozen margaritias and screwdrivers are my favorites. :D

Only time i usually drink is when i go fishing. I have a 12 pack of smirnoffs (good stuff) in the fridge and its been sitting there since labor day (no desire to open it up)

    • I installed the Auto stop eliminator on my 21 Sierra SLT shortly after I got it. They have a detailed video instruction on how, took me about 20-30 minutes to do. I was apprehensive too to start tearing apart a new truck but it was pretty easy install. Like you mentioned get some trim tools. I went to Harbor freight and picked up a set. If you can find some install videos/instructions to give you and idea for a plan of attack you should be fine.
    • If all oil manufacturers had to meet a higher standard for not just the initial filtering of the oil but that they had to improve on their formulation so that the oil cleaned the engine such as the Valvoline R&P or the new Mobil product ( assuming it works similar of course ), and the oil was changed on an interval based on good UOA data, there shouldn't be any gremlins running around like miniture rats on top of your heads to be washed down into the oil pan below 😁

    • A while back on another thread there were comments and thoughts on air filters and I know that can tend to be a bit of a hot topic because of outfits that have a vested interest in selling aftermarket air boxes fitted with the gauze type of oiled elements touting the lower air restriction. However and unfortunately I don't know where I have seen the test results in the past about the amount of dirt through a test procedure that these style of filters do pass more dirt through than a properly designed ( not some cheap Chinese knock off ) paper/synesthetic media filter can do. Lake Speed had a conversation on that topic with one of the employees at Donaldson and there seemed to be a consensus of these oiled filters falling short in the absolute percentage of dirt holdback.    Which all ties back into how good the air filter is on the engine at keeping dirt out as that is going to reflect as a contaminant introduced into the oil as well as cylinder wear even if some of that dirt does find its way out of the exhaust rather then the crank case. Put another way that one can throw the kitchen sink at filtering the oil and using a bypass system which I fully expect will do nothing but good for the oils contamination but if the air filter system isn't doing its job then its preventing the engine from reaching the best wear/lasting case scenario instead.    Now perhaps this topic is or isn't for this particular thread but Grumpy Bear or anyone else for that matter, do you have access to some scientific trust worthy testing on engine air filter types to get some proper comparison data to post up.
    • WOW, something we agreed on. I only bought at sticker twice. A 94 impala ss and an Acura intagra type r. Made money on the first. Still have the second.
