that really sucks, pro-tec beds were/are a great idea. Heck, they should've just made them standard on pick-ups and i bet they would have saved money.

I thought it was a good idea too, but I didn't think they would be well received. Just one of those things the buying public wasn't ready for.

It will scratch. Just not as easily as most others.

I think they would have sold quite a few more if they had engineered some sort of rails, or an alternative method of mounting a topper, shell, or toolbox....He!!, even made a special one themselves, and marketed it.

Of course, if it had caught on, aftermarket upfitters would have figured out a way to put them on there.

I wonder how long the paint would hold up on one of those. Every vehicle I've ever had with painted plastic, the paint faded twice as fast as the rest of the vehicle. I'm kinda glad I have steel bed.

It wasn't painted plastic, it was molde in that color. So it had the color all the way thorugh the material.

Besides, the new step-sides have urethane sides and they seem to be doing fine.

They sell a lot, just not to people who want plastic beds. Put them on the Base and W/T and the fleet buyers may get them. They would not have to worry about rust on their trucks down the road or paint flaking, so they may opt for the Pro-Tec.
