Sierra dying for no reason

Hey guys. So just background before I get into what’s wrong with my truck. Couple months ago I bought it and the truck turned off While driving at low speeds and stabilitrak came on and headlights blinked at night. Took it to the dealer and they said they “changed” out the battery but honestly it look used and the same to me. Whatever they did it fixed the issue and the truck has been fine since then. Fast forward now and the truck is turning off while I back up into a parking spot or pull in. Traction control comes on and the steering gets super tight. Every single time I turn the truck off it completely dies and I have to jump start it. Now I thought 100% battery is shot. I took it to advancedautoparts to get it checked out and they said the battery is good voltage is all good everything checks out. They also checked the Alternator and it checks out as well. Anyone have ideas what it could be? Also every time I jump start the truck a message appears saying “open and close driver window”.

I was having a few similar issues as well. Took mine to the dealer and found out that there is new negative battery cable as well as a new mounting location on the block that resolved my issues. Check into that and see what you come up with. Might ask your dealer about it, too.

I had similar issues with my 2018 Sierra.  My happened with less than 500 miles on the odometer.  Once they replaced the negative battery cable, it's been fine.

Thanks for the help. I went and got it checked out and everything still seems to check out. The negative and positive and is good and battery amps are fine and so is the alternator. Maybe the battery is bad and it’s reading wrong could that be a possibility? Or maybe something in the truck is pulling a lot of power like the gauge cluster or something like that?

Yup its the ground cable from the battery to the chassis.

Go under the passenger front and see if the connection is loose.

What i did was, i added another NEG cable from the battery to the ground bolt by the brake booster, about 6ft long from autozone.

Fixed all my issues. Mine was doing the same, it even died once going 65 on highway in 5pm traffic.

Your BCM could be on its way out. Those are all symptoms of a bad body control module. P/S, Stabilitrak, headlight blinking. If your ground and cables are good, your BCM is probably about to die. Changed one in one of my K2's also with random electrical glitches.

So I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 4door pu truck and it has been doing this for a couple of months now but when I lose power the steering wheel jerks out of my hands and I have no steering or brakes!  Very scary!! It also has been turning off going down the highway at 75 mph at night so I have no steering no lights or brakes !! Very scary!

Its loosing ground contact most likely. Read few posts above on what i wrote. That fixed my issues, i had the same things happen.

Hey,

Your symptoms sound very similar to something mine developed - car dying, stabitrack and backup assist turing off at slow speeds, etc.

If you google/watch a few videos on "G218 Ground" it could help.
Essentially there is a ground stud+nut that is affected by some insulation material under the left side dash.

I followed the directions on the videos. Removed the Dash speaker cover, unscrewed the nut, cut some of the insulation out and bolted it all back up.
Havnt had any similar issues since.
