I can't answer your question but I laugh with you, not at you. Replaced the cabin filter in Pepper a short while ago and bruise me silly. Sore for a few days as well. Mouse nest made it take longer and remove more than normal.

I feel ya two old farts!

I did my 4 times a year plastic treatment this past week. The avalanche was garaged kept until I got it. It’s park closed to a pine tree that drops sap. There was some on the windshield so I used a razor blade to scrape it off. I usually use gas on the paint when it gets sap dropped on it. I usually get in trouble when I do something new. A bear in a china shop is the best way to describe me. Let’s do it wrong first. Let’s try this. Oops. It always more fun to fix it wrong than to do it right the first time. My wife is like just don’t tell me or who do I got to call. Duct tape and super glue can fix anything. So back to the razor blade and the spot on the hood. Well it works. Scraped the sap off the hood with no scratches. Now it’s time to wax the hood. Don’t tell anyone it’s the only spot I do. Can’t see the top so it’s good. Almost 5 years no clear coat pealing yet. I’ve been promising myself I take it to get detailed, maybe this year.

Time for inspection. Texas has stopped vehicle inspections in most areas, I’m not in one. Well damn, third light is bad, one little led still working. Not enough for the inspector dude. I don’t think he likes his job. He could have just let it go. Anyway parts are coming. The only thing I’m worried about is the double sided tape and the old plastic. I have sealer too, just in case.

Inspections end on Dec. 31st. Except in counties that require emissions testing

Yes, I’m in one.

That job wasn’t too bad. It is true that it’s just emissions inspection. They will stop you if the third brake light doesn’t work. Probably a warning the first time. I like to eliminate the possibility of getting hit stopped on the side by a person who is texting while driving.

Passed inspection. Going on five years on this 2002 avalanche. Very little maintenance. Mostly replacing things do to age. Even the paint is still perfect. People ask me where I got it painted. It’s original paint. It’s stays outside but under shade mostly. My wife has to travel laying down mostly on the back seat to be comfortable after an hour of travel. That eliminates a truck for traveling. It’s too high. I’ve had some interesting vehicles for traveling because of that. The whole mini van thing wouldn’t have happened otherwise. The upside is at home I have my avalanche that doesn’t accumulate many miles. And I learned that the odyssey is pretty sporty, who knew?

The Odyssey at 156K miles. Oil change, transmission fluid change, tires rotated.

When I traded my daughter the CRV for the Odyssey she had one transmission fluid changed at 100K miles. At 127K when I got it during slow speed shifting it had a shudder. It shifted fine at aggressive speeds. After I did the 3 drain and fills it was fine. In the last few weeks I can feel a very slight shutter again with only 30K miles on the fluid. After the fluid change it’s gone. The fluid was getting darker. I’m using Hondas fluid. It’s amazing how sensitive this transmission is.

Try a tougher fluid. Honda uses very little synthetic in their fluid.

Going on the Honda forum they seem to favor valvoline. I’m getting ready to visit my old shop. I’ll see what Amsoil has. When I first inquired at Honda two years ago it seemed they had 3 different formulas for that year model. They needed a vin number to be sure to of the right fluid. After the rapid degrading of this fluid I’m certainly up for a change and more frequent fluid changes. I went from 0-20 to 5-20 on the oil. I’ll probably up that this summer.

I did the final drain and fill on the odyssey. It takes 3. The fluid came out clean and no real debris on the plug. It amazing how sensitive the transmission is with the fluid. This is after 30K miles. It’s probably the easiest service on any vehicle I’ve ever done. Rivaling the avalanche going through the dipstick. Searching ahead on newer models they’re going the way of GM and Hyundai. Drain and fill at the transmission. Very disappointing because you can’t do it at once. It takes several. So it’s costly if you don’t do it yourself. Unlike oil changes you only save a few dollars doing it yourself. It’s not easy when you get older. Trust me you’ll understand later. This year I’ve done a brake light switch and a third brake light on the avalanche. And transmission fluid change on the odyssey. For the first time in my life I’m thinking about replacing a vehicle with the same models. My wife too. So we’re running them longer and doing better maintenance. I may try Volkswagen next. The sign and drive is interesting. Pay the first 3 years up front. If you like it buy it at the end. I’m only even considering it because some family members have bought some recently and they really like them. As usual I could change my mind at any time. Several times I’ve driven the odyssey towards a dealership. Only to turn around and head back home. It just checks all the boxes. Sports car handling, reasonably fast, hauls all most anything and good fuel mileage. My sister laughed at me last week. Stan’s driving a minivan. Who would have thought! I can only say you have to drive one.

One of my grandsons did a sleepover yesterday. They all did until they get their license. Then they visit. We watched money ball and air. He’s the one getting the Avalanche. First thing they pile in for a ride. Five of them. I think it’s the first time for that vehicle. Except for the drivers side it looked like it was never used. The AC worked the whole time. Now the funny part. The other grandson in the back hit the down button for the window. It wouldn’t go back up. The passenger side front wouldn’t go down. I told him to take it slow. Imagine for 5 years all I’ve done was drive it 9 miles to my walking track and back home. 60 miles per hour max. Today it’s getting detailed they tell me. Easy money for that guy.

How much oil does it consume in what mileage? 😂
