Figured since I had a recent photo after I treated all the body armor.  I post a picture. She’s been a gem. Driving it more often still amounts to about 18 miles a day. Had a little twinge of it’s time for something else. One ride in a knowing what you got ride quickly silent the thought. It was fun in the past when I was younger. After so many it’s been gently driven lies, this one is staying.

As I stated yesterday the AC warmed a little. I bought a 40$ can of R-134 fill with a low side gauge. My compressor was still cycling so filling was a breeze. The can instructions were very informative. Putting the gauge on the money. My 18 mile round trip was very pleasant. If it leaks out quick dye will go in. Then I will decide if I want to address it or I’ll be able to point and say change that.

You’re not going to believe this. Especially since I’ve made it clear I like performance. Even the odyssey performs surprisingly well. Going on 4 years with the Avalanche. I don’t get on it. With 373 gears she should run pretty good. It’s got over 180K miles, I’m just chicken. Well someone was pushing my button yesterday tailgating me. They still haven’t raised the speed limit on the road they’d been working on. It’s done nice smooth and pretty. Put it back to 60. So I’m doing 50 a guy is on me. We get to a red light no one is coming towards us he’s going to bolt to pass on green. I just feel it. Racer Stan is engaged. Bring her up on the converter, green nail it. She spins a little snaps off second gear, gone. Ease back to 50, mission accomplished. And the rods aren’t knocking oil pressure is good. And the guy got the message. I wonder how she’ll sound this morning?

Observation with the last oil change. This time with Valvoline high mileage max life. With an oil change my oil pressure goes higher at around 3K it starts dropping. Enough to notice not too low. With max life it’s higher. It will be interesting to see how much it drops around 3K miles. I usually change shortly after.

The low coolant light came on today. It does it about 3 times a year. This month Im at 4 years with this Avalanche. No visible water in oil or leaks. My younger self would be frantically looking for the cause. My last hot rod truck cured me of that. The stroked blown monster it was. Went 12 years using 1qt every 500 miles with no smoking. Performance cats probably helped with that. Both trucks were for my pleasure only. Proving to me sometimes chasing perfection can be a waste of time. I wish I’d learned that many years ago.

In my case, arthritis forced that lesson on me. If not for that I would probably would still be my ****** and OCD do it yourself-er. On a related note, as the proverbial roll of toilet paper gets closer to the end, I find I have less and less patience for things or people that waste my time.

Wow, 6 asterisks for a 4 letter word that starts with a and ends with l and has na in between. I assume the censoring is an automatic algorithm, maybe they have started using AI that thinks a body part is a really, really bad thing!

Took the avalanche to get washed while running errands. Lately the brakes have been getting hard and a little darty. After stopping at a light getting up to speed my driver side tire starts acting like it’s out of balance or coming off. Slowing down it stops and I get up to the speed limit. My brain goes into rewind and I realize at about the same time my 92 Chevy did the same thing. Those rubber lines running to the brakes. That’s probably it. My left and right brain sees an opportunity. Upgrade! The problem is then I’d have to deal with cylinder deactivation. Nope.

Vibration part two. So I go down a different route to a closer walking track. Less braking 45 mph speed limit. Round trip about 7 miles. Normal going. Coming back halfway vibrating left side. No use of brakes just driving. I fancy myself as being able to feel things and troubleshoot. I get home no heat or brake dust like my 92 did. So now it’s more of a process of eliminating. Last time I used my floor jack it broke. Good thing I shouldn’t do that mechanical stuff anymore. It just takes too long to recover. You can’t just take to any shop and say it shakes fix it, I can’t anyway. I take the responsibility. Just do this. It still could be a brake issue, I’m less sure now with no heat. Maybe an out of balance tire. Even a bad tire. I never seen them come and go. It’s there or not. I’ve seen a worn front end get unsettled by a bump. I’m going to check lug nuts next. Then to discount to check the tire. I’m in no hurry.

People probably aren’t going to believe this but it’s true. I’m 68 and never put shocks other than air shocks on a vehicle. Going through the paperwork on my Avalanche only the back shocks have been replaced. Over the years if it wasn’t for horsepower I didn’t spend the money unless the part was absolutely wore out. After checking the tire at discount tire that’s next. Remembering back dragging brakes didn’t cause a bounce on my 92 Chevy.

I just got off the phone with my local GMC dealer price shopping front shocks and install. I was shocked to find out they don’t work on any vehicle after 15 years old.

New and first time on the forum here.  I have a 2012 Chevy Avalanche and got a Crankshaft Position Sensor error, and I replaced it.  Location behind the starter just to confirm.  I also read/watched how a 2-bolt harness by harmonic balancer but mine has a 3-bolt harness which 1 bolt is behind the balancer.  Now that's the camshaft position sensor I believe.  The problem when I turn the key is that it goes weak "womp womp" then starts and runs fine.  Then the same happens but the crankshaft error is back.  When this happens its rough running, the stabilization and traction display off and RPM not moving.  I turn off, disconnect battery, then after reconnecting and start with "womp womp" but no errors.  It sounds great runs great.  I have had this process repeat a couple times.  I have no time determination as to when it works and doesn't.  Can anyone please point me in a direction.   I apologize for the horrible grammar.

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
