2007 Silverado L33 NBS: multiple codes

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am back. Unfortunately with more issues. Yesterday I was out on a trail with a buddy of mine. we were climbing a snow covered hill, that in dry conditions, my truck would have handled just fine. I digress, when attempting to climb said small hill, I got stuck. I put it in 4LO and tried to get out, whether forward or backward. During this process, my dash popped the "SERVICE 4X4" code. after finally being pulled out in reverse, we were headed home and I tried to get my truck to shift out of 4LO (heck i would have been happy with 4HI) but nothing happened, no light flashing on the knob indicating that it was even trying.  So, I started to drive home. Halfway home the MIL light came on and I remembered that I had my scanner in the truck, I scanned the code and had a P0700, and a pending P0300. I ran live data on the scanner, driving between 40 and 55 MPH home. After the P0700 code came a P0742. The truck also was acting strange in the way that, randomly it would not want to shift and the speedometer would not register any speed, as well as fluctuating gas gauge. other than these random occasions the truck would shift through all 4 gears without any issues. My Transmission fluid is clean and at the right levels, I do not think it is the clutch pack as the transmission shifts through all the gears ( I could be wrong). If I need to provide more information I would be glad to, hopefully it will lead to a fix.

Any Ideas would help.

P.S. I have tried the put it in the selection that you want and shift from R-N-D-N-R, several times and nothing happens.  Thanks again.

Being that you had electrical problems my first check would be the battery and grounds.  A short in the battery can wreak havoc on your electrical system and is hard to detect if the right tools are not used properly.  If you have 3.42 gears or lower, you were driving way too fast in 4LO, way past the critical speed of both driveshafts (assuming stock size tires).  P0742 is for the torque converter's clutch being stuck.  Does your scan tool also read chassis and transfer case codes?

I checked the battery, everything is good there.

I check ALL fuses, none were blown.

I do not have a scan tool with those capabilities but I have reached out to a couple people I know that might, just waiting on replies.

Unless someone is in the central California valley area, and has one that would be willing to scan my truck. I would greatly appreciate it.

Until then, I wait. Unless of coarse someone has other suggestions.

How did you check the battery?  Do you know its state of charge?  How old is it?

I checked it with a dvom not sure of its age.

The voltage reads 11.64.

Both terminals are tight.

I get a 0.00 ohm reading when positive lead is on post and negative lead is on the motor or other bolt in engine compartment. Same with when I have a lead on the negative pole and a lead on the motor or other bolt in engine compartment. I believe I should be getting 12Vdc when on motor and positive post, correct?

The battery is basically discharged.  If the ambient temp was 75 degree and the battery read 12.0 volts it would be at 20%.  Your local auto parts store can check the battery for free with their tools and are accurate if they know how to use them.  That being said, if you're not sure of the battery's age, it's probably old and in need of replacement.

Mine hit three years of age recently and I bought a BatteryMinder which cleaned the crud off the plates and brought it back to life so that it holds a charge again.  Took about 3 days for mine, some take less time, some take more time.

I'm not sure why you are fixated on the battery as I have a P0742 , P0300, and P0700 codes. I'm not sure that the battery would cause those codes.

Because we see these kinds of problems daily on these forums.  Your first post provides the clues that in addition to the codes, your Instrument panel cluster was acting up and your transmission was also shifting normally albeit intermittently.  The various modules (computers) that make our trucks work rely on proper battery voltages to function properly without error.

One time my daughter was not feeling well at church and asked to lay down in the truck.  She turned the key  on and went to sleep.  When we came out the dash was lit up like a christmas tree, the navigation unit was flashing, headlights were flickering, fan was running down, so I hooked up my Tech-2 and saw about 2 dozen trouble codes.  Got a jump from a buddy and drove home.  A three hour drive the next day charged up the battery.

Do you really have a misfiring engine and a stuck clutch in your torque converter?  Maybe, but the battery is a lot less expensive to replace than all that other stuff, especially since you do not have access to proper diagnostic tools yet.

Thanks for all your help so far and the upcoming. I had about a 3-4 hour drive home and it did not ever come out of 4LO. The reason the voltage was so low in my previous post is that I accidentally left the key on Acc. for about 30-60 min before that reading and did not notice until after I replied.  I just ordered a fox well auto master Pro off Amazon and they are guesstimating it will be here in 6 or 7 days. I will be able to run a diagnostic on what seems to be every dang sensor in the vehicle with this thing, according to their advertisement.

Alright! Problem solved. The culprit wound up being the Transfer Case Control Module. Watch a couple videos on YT, found one with a truck that had very similar side effects, they changed it and fixed the problem. I figured I would give it a try and viola, it fixed it. Thanks for all the suggestions.

P.s. I hope this helps someone else

Me too, glad it's fixed but watch those other things.  It's possible the failing module was causing the electrical gremlins elsewhere.

Oh, definitely. I will. I still have that scanner coming, hopefully within the week, and will do a full scan when I get it.
