Wheel spacers for a wider stance

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed any of the wheel spacers that are available?  Strictly for a wider stance, and primarily for the look of the truck, I was wondering:

A:)  How wide is it safe to go?  Is an inch on each side safe?

B:)  Is an inch on each side noticable?

C:)  Does installing spacers require a front end alignment or anything?

D:)  Any down side to doing this?

Thanks

I have 2-in spacers in the rear of my truck to match the track in the front. The front track was pushed out by the BDS lift that I had installed. There are plenty of horror stories when it comes to spacers. The bottom line is it boils down to the quality of spacer and the quality of the installation. I chose Bora spacers because they're hubcentric and quality material. The shop that installed my lift also installed my spacers and they do my tire rotations along with my regular services because I know they will torque the wheel spacers and lift properly. And I'm pretty sure anything less than 2 in will require you to shave your studs. I also have flares so the side of my truck doesn't get beat up from debris thrown by the tires. Whatever you do don't get cheaply made spacers because you don't want to see a wheel flying off at 70 mph on the freeway.

Thank you for that help.  Do you think I need to go 2" to be noticable?  And do these effect the stability of the truck?  Or just the look.

I'm not opposed to putting sway bars on as well.

I'm not a racer, or even a weekend four wheeler.  Honestly, my primary goal, is that I just like a wider stance.  My truck is lifted, but only 2".  I'm also not opposed to putting flares on, but I would prefer a milder set.

So again, I'm thinking 1", if they will be noticable.  I'd add mild flares, to protect my truck, that was good advice.

What about front and back sway bars?  Worth it?

By hub centric, do you mean they have a turned hub that the tire centers on?  I've seen those, but they are harder to find.

I do have a four wheel shop down the road, that has done good work for me before, that could professionally install these additions.

Thanks again.

Stance is dependent on the wheels, tires, lift, etc. Only you can decide what's noticeable. I don't have sway bars but plenty of people do. A lot of this is preference. I personally wouldn't run a spacer that wasn't hub centric and if studs had to be cut I'd get it professionally done. Hopefully others will chime in. I certainly don't claim to be an authority.
