RetraxOne Bed Cover

I had a bakflip on my 2010 Sierra I traded in. I really liked it, but the rubber sealing joint glue would soften in the hot sun and the rubber seals would come loose. PITA but otherwise a good cover. It was still going after 10 years to the day I traded it in.  I thought about a bakflip on this new one, but went another route.

I can't speak to the ONE specifically, but I recently installed a Powertrax MX Pro, and I absolutely love it. The biggest concern you're going to have, whether manually operated or power, is the fact that the roller canister the rolled up part sits in takes up some bed space. Especially if you have the shorter bed. There's still some area under it that's useable, but that's just something to consider. The slats run on rollers, very similar to a garage door. If installing yourself, you must ensure the tracks width measurements as installed are within 1/16" of an inch.  There's adjustments to get there if it isn't, but if you're off, it can make the operation a bit more difficult.

Also, the rear seal on the slats when rolled back to the bed is basically a lip seal, or curtain seal. So as it just comes up to the edge of the tailgate, the lip seal pushes up over the top of the gate and seals it. But this kind of seal isn't waterproof if you're using a pressure washer as water can push past that seal. Also, if you have the multi-pro tailgate, there's already the side gaps that aren't sealed anyway.

Do you still have the foldable grab bar in the bed? If so, the lock mechanism MAY not clear properly. I'm not sure as I got the power version where the lock stuff is not installed. But that's something to ask about. There may be slight modification to that rail right over the grab bar mount brackets. I've read some people needing to trim that just a hair, even on the power versions. I didn't have to on mine.

But overall, the unit seems to be well made. The good thing I like about it is that it doesn't block your rear view when all the way open like the flip up versions. If you have the camera mirror or bed camera, that may not be such an issue for you though. If you can live with a little loss of bedspace in the front, I think you'll be pleased with the Retrax.

Thanks! I went ahead and got one. I like it a lot, it takes up more bed room than I anticipated but I don't use that much of the bad too often. The handle is still in place and causes no issue, I sorta wish I got the pro now, but i couldn't justify the additional expense.

I really appreciate your write up!

Yeah, that little swath of bed room taken up is a killer, especially if you NEED the bedspace. If not, it's a great cover. I'm sure you're going to love it overall. Each style has a plus and minus. Good luck with it!

Yea! if I didn't want the tracks I might have gone with a Peragon, so many options out there but always pros and cons!
