I have a 2016 Sierra 2500hd with the factory fog lights. I have ordered the bracket to install the rigid pod lights in their place. My question is can I use the factory wiring from the headlight switch, or do I need to use a relay in conjunction with the factory switch.  I have no issue using a relay I was just more curious if it would even be needed ....

Are your factory lights spoken for?

I have a 2107 Sierra Base with plastic fillers where there should be fog lights.

Looking to put something brighter than nothing in those holes.

I'd think they'd be plug and play to the switch, being the Rigid brand they better be and no relay should be needed imo. My Morimoto fogs were plug and play.

As long as they do not pull more amperage then the stock lights, you will be fine. 

Cause then you'd need or want an in-line fuse hence relay?

Fuses and relays are different. 

If the stock fog light were meant to pull up to 20A and the new lights are rated at 30A then you will need to rewire / wire independently so the wires do not burn up and burn down your truck. 

If they are rated the same or less then you can just wire it in using the stock wires and switch.

This is why we need people like you lol. I'd definitely burn my truck [emoji23]. This info little as it may be, is gold to the not wire/tech savvy people like me.

Thanks for the replies, The ones I am planning on using are the D pods by rigid.  I looked them up and their max amp  draw is 2.14 - 3.14 amps(P/N 501313). I imagine the low amp draw is due to them being LED  I just wanted to prepare if I needed to wire in a relay ...they are plug and play with their own switch but I want to use the factory if at all possible.

Same here, have been looking for install videos, products etc. Mine is a 2019

This is a straight plug and play. I had them on my Sierra 1500 for 4 years without any incident.

They draw 22w each, which is less than any 5202 halogen bulb

I got them installed  ..it was a  pain in the ass....the directions say to remove the three bolts in the back of the factory light...well unless you have miniature hands its not gonna happen. I ended up removing the whole front bumper.  But it is a huge difference. Very well worth the time and money. the only draw back I have found with this set up is that there is very little adjustment you can do. the aiming is ok   a tad high for my liking but over all not bad...just do not drive into oncoming traffic with them on...you will blind them....but overall not a bad setup

I'm pretty big advocate on not blinding oncoming traffic. Obviously you bought them and aren't going to go back now. But these are the moritmoto fog lights with a beam cutoff. The other pic is the D2S 5.0 headlight low beams and fog lights. Also let's see some pics man!

ill get a few pics tonight... I had looked at the morimoto fogs but I wanted bright since I am a first responder and scene lighting is paramount out here...and I am  not a fan of light bars. These do  a great job and I am very happy with them.... I loved my morimoto Hid/s and leds I had in my silverado and I wished I could move them over to my sierra but I guess I need to save for the full housing retrofit....and if anyone wants a full set of morimoto Hid's I have the full set with the warning cancelation and anti flicker...along with extra ballast and two new ignitors and two new bulbs.  I also have the 2stroke leds for the high beams...this was a great setup and I loved it....

Sorry for bring up a old thread. Any 1 have issues with fogs not coming on? I thought they were just burnt out. Ordered new 1s and nothing. Dash shows they're on. And the fuse #49 15a is good. Any ideas

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
