Hi, I own a 2007 GMC Sierra SLT Vortec Max with 152k and was thinking about upgrading to a 2017 GMC Sierra SLT with 20k. Good idea? Bad? Any known issues with the 17s?

known issues, lol, hahahaha you need to read more..

if  I where you I would send the truck in for a paint job, and a trans rebuild. you'll be so much further ahead. save your hard earned cash and buy some gold bullion and bury it under the house for when the US dollar collapses..

but seriously if i was gonna buy a K2 truck it would be a WT model , all rubber interior and down graded radio with 6 speed  and a 3.75 rear end. I do like the v6 for fuel effeciency but my current 5.3 is a beast.  good luck . the torque converters are the main issue

if you want to tune the truck later on down the road, you want to find a 2014-16 model.  they locked out some tuning features on the 17-19 years. so you have to pay more to crack those tcm's

I haven’t had any issues with my 2018 SLT. I’m at 25k and overall it’s a much better truck than my 2015 Wt. the radio was awful in my WT, hardly worked and when it did it was buggy. They fixed a lot of radio issues with the 2016+ models.

Also the WT v6 doesn’t come with the 3.75. It comes with the 3.23 for fuel efficiency and that was the worst part about driving it IMO.

Main thing I always hear about is the AFM lifters going after awhile. To help with that on my 2017 I have tuned out the cylinder deactivation to help lengthen the life. If they ever go bad Ill just have to do the delete. Currently at 41k on my 2017 with no issues.

Each year the K2 run improved, drive it, see if they will let you take it overnight, then make your decision.

They are good trucks as the year gets bigger. Problems with every car on the road, they are machines, and they will all break someday.
