Late 09 to 14, you are right, its what i have seen, with my own eyes as a reoccuring issue. Just like i saw gm scramble to try to fix oil consumption issues with valve covers, oil sprayer deflectors, then they eventually get pistons. Ive also owned, an 01 6.0 gm, a 05 5.3 gm, 07 5.3 gm, a 14 5.3 gm, and a 17 6.2 gm, none have had the engine apart. That doesnt mean others havent had issues. Who are you? What have you seen?

There is always someone on the forum that likes to cause chaos because they think they are cute and funny.  Ignore them. Or u can tell them to get bent like I did and they never respond anymore to my posts, Which I truly like. ?

I agree that the early model 07-10 had major issues with AFM and oil consumption. The later years did better. Nothing like the 99-06 vortec and LS motors. They are bullet proof.

My 2000 Yukon 2wd 5.3L got to 392k miles before I gave up on it when the radiator went.  The engine was having issues with a cracked head gasket anyway, and oil pressure issues, but it still ran fine.  I loved that thing and wish I could get another one today.  I replaced the trans at 162k miles with a reman and the reman ran fine for the 200k+ miles I had it.

If anyone in the Southeast has a 00-06 Hoe/Yuk that you're looking to sell, let me know.

I had a 2001 Tahoe with 191k on it that I sold to my buddy's kid. Still on the road after 9 years and I have no idea how many miles are on it now.

In the time I owned it (since new) the only engine related part that went bad was a water pump around 140k miles.

I have a 2007 Suburban with the 5.3L.  Second owner.  It had 7,000 miles when I bought it.  As of yesterday, it had 322,081 miles on it.  I do all maintenance and repairs myself.  I've always run Mobil 1 fully synthetic.  I did the AFM shield, new valve cover design and cylinder soak around 190,000 miles due to some oil consumption which resolve the problem.  It's a very solid engine and I don't see any reason it wouldn't do 500,000 miles +.

I had a 2007 Tahoe LS with a cast iron 5.3 with AFM (formerly known as Displacement on Demand). GM had the dealership do their things to help with oil consumption, but it ultimately failed me. Only had 98k on the odometer, but was about 6 months out of warranty. My wife, son, and I were literally stranded in the middle of Wyoming in September. Got a tow to Laramie where a Chevy dealership was located. They called GM and tried to get GM to help, but we ultimately got told to get bent due to being out of warranty by 6 months. The military wasn't going to allow us the needed time to replace the engine, which had to be brought from Colorado, so we bought a 2012 Malibu LS and crammed every single inch of that car with what we had in the Tahoe. I drove all night to get to our destination in Chicagoland. This experience left a very bitter taste in my mouth, and is always heavily considered when I am looking for a new vehicle. This time around I went with Chevy over Ram and Toyota hoping it wouldn't be a repeat of what happened back then. I guess only time will tell.
