You can do it yourself in about 20 minutes. I got the relay, new wire, and all the connections I needed for less than $10 from Napa. :D

these are 2 seperate instructions for making all 4 headlights come on when the highbeams are on. the 1999 have negative switched circuits. (not for use on WTs or OBS cheyennes)

List of things to get

1.relay- 4 prong,w/ #85, #86, #87, and # 30 posts. common relay for additional lights

2.some scotchloks, four or five

3. some wires... doesnt matter what color as long as you can tell them apart

4. some zip ties and electrical tape

5. some connectors for the relay to the wires.

6. a screw to mount the relay, and one to ground the relay

7 an inline fuse

88-98s

1. mount the relay on the inside fenderwell near battery

2. run a wire(green) from#87 to the low beam wire... you will need a test light

3. run a wire (Black) from #85 to a good ground with a self tapping screw or straight to the negative battery terminal

4 run a wire (white) from #86 to the high beam wire... test light helps.

5. last run a wire ( yellow) from#30 to the + side of the battery with an inline fuse.

6.tape up your connections and zip tie the wires... test it out first though..

Instructions I followed, got them from from fullsizechevy.com

99+ instructions

pretty much the same as above, but the wires go to different locations. ive got colors to colors on this install no test light needed... i mounted the relay on the passenger side, between the headlight and the parking light, behind the grill, there is a 10mm screw.. this works pretty good

1. run#86 on the relay using a black wire to the purple highbeam wire that plugs into the headlights

2.run#87 using a green wire to the yellow lowbeam wire

3.run #85 using a white wire and a ninline fuse to the orange high beam wire

4.run #30 using a yellow wire to a good ground

5. use the tape and zipties to clean it up.

these wire colors are suggested in the instructions, you can use whatever, just make sure the destinations are correct. I know it may look backwards at first, but remember its a negative switched circuit on the 99+ models..

Those look like LowReds Instructions from FSC! The exact instructions I used, and mine have been working great for a long time now. These instructions do not cause the low beams to dim or wires to heat up like I have heard from other kits/instructions!

For the DIY for the 99's what guage of wire did you us?

This sounds like a good mod to due over thanksgiving.

So you just due this on the pass side and it will control both side of lights too....cool!!!

Thanks!

I modified LowRed's (I think he is Ranchand on here) instructions from FSC some when I did mine. I didnt cut any wires, and used those crimp tube connectors instead of the scotchloks because everytime I had an electrical problem with anything, it would always be the scotchlok! All of this does take place on the passenger side, I had enough wire to tuck everything up between the airbox and the fender; plus there is a good screw or bolt in that area for a ground too . Instead of cutting the selected wire, I just cut the insulation off for about a 1/2 inch, doubled the bare part and crimped it in one end of the tube connector, then crimped in the other end. I just used some wire I had layin around, I think it was a Solid #12 not stranded, which goes to the relay. After I finished the wiring, I tested it a few times then covered the relay and connectors with some clear silicone. As I said before it works great for me. Someone said the same instructions will not work on an S10, when I get some time I am going to check out my dads S10 and see if I can figure something out for it.

I just did mine tonight, it worked great, thanks for the info. I did it a little different also. I used your info on the truck wire colors and relay info. I traced them back to the power center/fuse box over by the battery. Then I pulled the cover off and the fuse block up and over a little to get to the wires underneith. Then I installed just like you said color and relay #s. there is a nice 10 mil. bolt under there also for the ground. Now the relay and all asociated wires and the relay are under the power center out of the elements and out of site.

Thanks again, it worked great. :flag::lol::D:wtf:

Well thanks for the write-up. I just did this , this morning about a 5 - 10 min job. and it looks awsome!!! This is how these trucks should have came from the factory!!

Not sure what size I used, I had a 5 in there when I first tested it but I think I put a larger one in before I put the headlight assembly back together and everything!!

O.K. I could use some help here. I got the relay and associated parts but the wire colors listed for the 99+ don't match what I found on my 03 Silverado. I would like some clarification before I start cutting any wires.

My low beams have one black wire and one tan with white stripe wire.

My hi beams have one black wire and one light green with black stripe wire.

My questions:

#86 to my black wire OR light green with black stripe wire on high beams?

#87 to my black wire OR tan with white stripe wire on low beams?

#85 with inline fuse to the remaining wire not used for #86?

#30 ground?

Also, should I use a 5 amp or 10 amp inline fuse?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the light circuit? I did this mod but maybe we should be installing a diode (not a large one in the "load" side but rather a diode in the "line" side up at the dash. This would all but elliminate any melted wires. Actualy I may me speaking too soon, maybe the way we are doing it is just fine. I just wish I had a copy of the lighting circuit so I could see for myself. :sigh::rolleyes::sigh::cool::lol:
