I am wondering what all I will have to do to swap a 383 stroker with holley sniper efi for my 5.3 vortec. Also wondering is the 383 the right motor to be swapping in or are there better options, my budget is not very big. note this will just be a daily driver

Why do you want to swap it? You can do a top end on a 5.3 and pick up some major power. Then throw in a rotating assembly or power adder and there's a lot you could do without going to all the trouble of getting a new block.

A 383 stroker isn't what I'd call a daily driver.

If you don't care that you are going to lose all the other features of your truck, then go ahead with the swap. No factory computer means nothing related to that is going to work again.

Modding your 5.3 for more power is going to be easier and still return good fuel mileage because of the modern EFI.

If the 5.3 block has enough meat in the cylinder walls, it can be bored a bit and a stroker crank added to make a 383 out of the engine you have.  Then everything will still work.  You could also just do a 6.0 swap.  That's what I did.  You just need to make sure you get a 2001 to about 2004 so that makes everything a bolt in to your truck.

Get a 6.0 everything will swap from your 5.3. Put a small cam in it and your truck will feel like a whole new truck.

When I wanted to modify an engine since the seventies I would start at my favorite speed shop. I would read my hot rod magazine. As time past I’d use the internet. Bang for the buck was my goal. From watching my youngsters at my business modify their tucks. It’s seems heads and cams with computer programming is the rage. Some just add a S/C. That’s the direction I usually went. 383s left the building with the 5.7.
