What do you think the problem is?

Hey guys I have a situation that I need some help with. A freind has a 97 or 98 Astro van. He is not getting any airflow from the center dash vents. Getting flow to the defroster vents. What could be the cause? I am trying to help him out, they are in a real big finacial pinch due to the death of their child. Thanks in advance.

I am not a licensend mechanic, but I believe their is a "door" that directs air flow. So it could be that the door is not swinging enough to direct the flow out of the center vents.

Just to clairfy when you say center vents do you mean all the dash vents and not the floor vents, or just the dash vents in the center?

I had the same problem on my 92.

There was a little arm under that dash that moved the door inside the vent to re-direct the air. It had fallen off. I just put it back on, and voila, good as new.

I posted a pic of it a while back...do a search. I'll see if I can find it.

common on newer safari van's is a vacume hose that controls the

heater mode breaks right in front of the throttle body

to check just pull the air filter housing and the air inlet tube

check at the top of the engine in front of the throttle body

i've seen more than one van with this problem
