David Peterman Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 My 2015 Suburban lost power steering and dealer says the system is non functional and needs to be completely replaced. One does not expect a huge expense on a five year old truck that costs what these truck cost. GM not yet responding. What are others experience or perspective? Seems like there have been a lot of problems with the switch over to electronic systems....
Mikey999 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 That's very surprising. How many kms do you have? I wonder if there are any internal service bulletins? Ask them to check. And also ask another dealer to check for bulletins as i once experienced on another brand where one dealer located a service bullentin while another did not. How much are they quoting for the repair?

Seems like there have been a lot of problems with the switch over to electronic systems.... What was the main failure? We lost the steering rack in our 16 Tahoe just under 60000 miles. Problem is, only a few items are replaceable on the rack, so in most cases the whole unit is replaced at a cost of almost $2000.00.
gat0r Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 what was the outcome/resolution on this? GM has lots of platforms with known issues with their electric power steering. hopefully they covered it for you.
David Peterman Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 GM did absolutely nothing. No assistance, made me wait without a car for 6 weeks to tell me they could not do anything to address this. Only positive was that we were not driving the car when the power steering system failed. Fixed the car, selling it now, replaced it with a new vehicle from another company and will not buy GM again. A shame given 20 years of buying $50+k suburbans....can not recommend them any longer
