Power Steering Pump Seals

Application: 2016 2500/6.0 Type II pump.

 

I can’t find info anywhere for pump seals, seal kits, or overhaul kits with a bearing.   What other applications are out there, or what part numbers apply?

Those aren’t commonly rebuilt by people like they used to... I’d be interested to see what you come up with.

For us in the industry rebuilding things have all but gone away

I rebuilt my PS pump (for which there are readily available seal kits), and while I was able to get the job done, I needed 2 pumps to do it, as you can't get any other parts for it, and in particular, the rear plate and spring (which holds everything in, and in place) are easy to damage during disassembly.  I wouldn't recommend doing it (your newer pump is a similar setup) unless you have multiple pumps for spare parts.

 

I also wish seal kits for stuff like this were more commonly available, as otherwise it's just throwing away good parts with easily fixable problems.

I have been a GM line mechanic for 46 years. When I started in this business we overhauled everything, starters, alternators,steering boxes etc... now everything is throw away crap. Take one out, ****** can it and replace.No skill required.

Labor fee's are likely why mechanics don't do it anymore, as even if the seal kits were available & cheap, the overall cost is near the cost of the replacement part, and there's the risk of finding something else wrong with inside, that isn't available or puts the cost way over the cost of the replacement part (and also takes extra time, waiting for the replacement bits).

 

Everyone wants it cheaper and done yesterday....
