I’m looking to add some extra fog lights to my AT4, I love my the look of the front end & grill but the fog lights are to high for some situations and I want some down lower and would like to wire them in to the stock fog lights

Has anyone else done this and have pics?

Youd have to sacrifice your recovery hooks though. I didnt want recovery hooks (they make my sport truck look like an off roader :-)). So it was perfect for me.

What brand are those?

they're a no-name brand. it was not easy to find something that would fit there. the passage is rather small. although during the project I found that there was another bezel there which was easily removable which would give even more space. so likely these will just be a phase 1. It should be possible to build a mounting bracket for a TRS or rigid type LED fog light which would attach using the mounting points for that inner bezel.

If these keep working though they're actually pretty neat. the beam pattern isn't the best but its ok. its a dual beam LED. so its got an amber fog light and a cool white high beam. so when I turn the high beams on they turn white and send their light farther upwards. they look pretty good! I reinforced the waterproofing so hopefully they will last for a while and eventually I will design some other mounting brackets and install a larger light there.

right now they are tied into the fog lights and high beams. my eventual plan is to take over the task lights switch on the headlights knob (because seriously...why are the task lights on the headlights knob, and the fog lights button is somewhere else?) so I will use the stock task lights button to turn on my bad weather fog lights, and the stock fog lights button for the good weather fog lights (replace the useless stock lights) and I will rewire the task lights to a different switch which will allow them to work while in gear. those lights would be very useful for parking lot maneuvers in tight quarters, the factory setup prevents them from being used at the very time when they would be most useful.

Here is a thought.  The area between the tow hooks is solid plastic on gas models and OPEN for diesel models.  You could switch out the lower panel and install alight bar in the open area.   If you google diesel 1500's, you will see the difference in the lower bumper area.

I desperately want to add lighting.  I think our lights stink to be honest.  I mean they blind people, but its too focused, especially on high beam.  In the spring, I want to take my truck to a shop and see if they can fab me up some brackets to add a light bar in that opening.  If not, my only other option is the light pods that mount up on the hood.  And well, to be honest, they look like lights you just threw up on the hood....

I actually had the same thought as well. that lower piece isn't terribly expensive and it looks fairly easy to remove.

there are at least a couple of bolts holding it on for which the bolt heads are behind the bumper, but I think with a gearwrench they'd be accessible and it would be possible to remove.

mounting brackets for a light bar (or pods) could be fabricated so that they would mount with the recovery hook's bolts. it should provide a nice solid mount.

I completely agree.  I am surprised no one has done this yet.  I did see that someone cut their valance from a gas model and installed a light bar.  This was would be easier. Just need someone to fabricate up the brackets and sell them to us.... (Hint Hint)  There are tons of aftermarket options for Fords and Dodge's..   I hoped that by now, someone would have made something that looked clean.

I havent found a shop willing to play with my truck though.

On the diesel model, maybe that opening is for the turbo to get air possibly?

HOnestly, I'd likely spec squadrons over a bar - I've had both and the squadrons were much better IMO.

You think two Squadron Pro's would put out more light then a 20" single row LED light bar?

My buddy has 8 Squadrons on the front of his F350.  Combo of spot and driving..  It lights the night.  I swear it would blind Stevie Wonder.

I can say that I had 2x Squadron pros (driving, so half spot half flood covers) and 1x 20" bar - both BajaDesigns.  The Squadrons threw more light and seemingly just as far but with more flood effect.  The lightbar might have thrown further but not enough to matter.

The squadrons trumped the headlights on my 1st gen tundra.

    • are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.
    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them.
    • I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.
