The main thing is the member has his answer to his issue, which is what the site is all about

And I was just responding to your above statement to let you know that Jsdirt and anyone else for that matter can respond. You seemed take issue with a response from a "non-tech This is just a section. You'll find there are many members who are quite knowledgeable. Jsdirt was spot on as you now see. Not a lot of GM techs hang on the sites all the time, but we have one or two that stop by when able.

We're done here. Move on

You have your answer by a GM Tech now as posted above by newdude

Yes  I do have my answer and you sir should have been done before you even started. Yes many people are intelligent but no one insulted anyones intelligents. Hence the reason of why I was on here asking the ques backyard tion. To take someone elses knowledge and get another standpoint of knowledge from another person which may have or may not have been a G.M tech and mix that with my knowledge of the wrenching that I have done for almost 20 years now as a lead tech and a service writer and see if that makes me any more intelligent on this matter. Because what do you do class when you don't know for sure what the correct answer is to the aquation. Right you study and research which is what I was doing because I didn't know the correct answer on this matter. Not all knowledge comes from hands on experience. Which is also why the are study books and all kinds of different knowledge on the internet. Which maybe if you would do some more research on what you were responding to then maybe you would be responding with something that pertains to the subject at hand.
Which here is maybe something for you to study along with anybody else to study if they would like because someone else may not know the correct answer either like myself.     Now maybe we can all move on to better things. Like maybe being able to have an intelligent response to a subject instead of something that does not even pertain to the subject. With all due respect.
Have a nice day and try not to scrape your knuckle on the next bolt that you turn on your next backyard job.

NOTE: If the Crankshaft Variation
Relearn is not accessible through
your scan tool (some truck
applications 1998 & later), perform
the relearn in the following
manner:
1. Turn off all of the accessories.
With the Air temperature sensor and
Coolant temperature within 5 degrees
(Centigrade) of each other, start the
engine and let it idle in Park or
Neutral for two minutes.
2. Accelerate the vehicle to 55 mph at
part throttle. Cruise at 55 mph for 8-
10 minutes until the engine reaches
operating temperature.
3. Cruise at 55 mph for another 5-6
minutes.
4. Decelerate to 45 mph without
using the brakes, and maintain 45
mph for 1 minute.
5. Perform 4 deceleration cycles,
without using the brakes, of 25
seconds each where no specific
speed is necessary. Returning to 45
mph for 15 seconds in between
deceleration cycles.
6. Accelerate to 55 mph and cruise
for 2 minutes.
7. Stop the vehicle and idle for 2
minutes with the brake applied and
the transmission in Drive (automatic
trans.) or Neutral (manual trans.)
with the clutch depressed. Refer to
diagram A on page 8.

Supposedly its for all GM vehicles.

You can do the crank relearn without a techII scanner...

I've seen it done and thought about doing it myself. It is much simpler then the process you describe and it is no different then when you do it WITH the scanner.....

If you have all the answers, then why the hell did you come here asking for help in the first place?

Here's a suggestion - If you're going to try and make yourself look smarter than everyone else, I suggest you brush up on your spelling and grammar skills, first.

I call BS on your cut / paste.

Here's a suggestion - If you're going to try and make yourself look smarter than everyone else, I suggest you brush up on your spelling and grammar skills, first.

I call BS on your cut / paste.

Read carefully what I wrote before I will write again. I said that I do not have all the answers. Which is the reason why I asked my question so that maybe I could get more knowledge from all the gearheads out there. I was referring to articles that I had read on the internet. When you look things up on the intetnet you get all kinds of different suggestions and usually they are different which is why I was trying to get more input on this issue.

Also I am not trying to make myself look smarter than anyone. But I am trying to become smarter on this subject. Which is another reason of why I asked my question.

The reason for my cut and paste as you call it (copy/paste) was so that anyone trying to be in this conversation could see why I was asking what I was asking. All because of different suggestions leading or misleading people such as myself. So calling BS on my copy/paste is your opinion and I appreciate it. Which gives me another reason for not believing that it could be done instead of being able to be done with a scan tool.

Now as far as your little insult towards my writing and my grammer. Well also an opinion that you can wipe your ass with. Because even though some of my words may be misspelled it's not because I don't know how it's because my thumbs are bigger than the keys on my keyboard which is on my phone. Which is another reason for why people should do some research before jumping to conclusions. Because now you really made yourself look like an ass. Don't try to beat me because you have felt offended from the beginning of this conversation because of how at first I was calling BS on your response from the beginning and I believe that you could detect that. But now you do have me second guessing other people's suggestions on this subject. Not because you said anything intelligent about this subject but because you were the first to respond to this and because you kind of stuck to your guns the whole way through as to not believing that it would work. But if I may quote you, you did say that " you had just never heard of it". But just because you had never heard of it does not mean that it is not possible. I myself had never heard of any of it either which is why I inquired about it. I had other techs in my town that had told me that it was possible and I was in disbelief. Which is why I went to the internet trying to research the lead and one would say yes and one would say no. Which again is why I broadened my horizon and tried to get a G.M tech to shed his light on the matter. Which looking at the headline on the forum it does say "ask a GM tech". That's what I thought I was doing when I posted my question. Didn't know that I was being misled again.

Now is that better for you so that your non reading self is abke to sound the words out better. Or was it because since my thumbs were hitting the wrong keys that you were unable to make out what was actually being said. Well hopefully this one was better for you so that you can grasp ahold of what is being said to you.

And here's a suggestion for you. The next time that you see something and realize that just because you had never heard of it before does not mean that you know the answer. Just because you had never heard of it before does not mean that it can not be done. Unless that is you are the person that the designer's run everything by before it is actually released on the market and in the tech books for our future techs then atleast maybe do a little research yourself and draw a conclusion with it and then put your opinion out there for the world to see. Which is what I was doing because my opinion to what I was hearing and reading was do more research before I go the wrong way and really take the possibility of really messing something up and have to possibly have to replace a motor or computer for that matter.

    • On the subject of OLM, Gm's OLM tool may be more "informed" than others brands. I recall OLM's in mid-2000's Chrysler products literally counting down a set number of miles. That's all the OLM appeared to be.    I would actually expect GM to be able to explain the parameters that their OLM takes into account from a high level. No, I would not expect them to disclose their software coding or data analysis around their parameters.   So we're talking about two different topics, so to continue the subject on the other one, I'd be curious to know how much "standard particulate matter" in fresh oil is able to be filtered at first start by a fresh oil filter. How much particulate matter is enough to "matter"?   I.e. how much of a "lever" do we think this equates to (variability in particulate content, in fresh oils, between different makes/brands, some which filter less, and some that filter more).   We can say that more particles = more wear = shorter engine life as a logical statement and use that data with a little marketing to scare people into selecting a more refined/filtered oil. Using a similie, is this like deciding to forego two alcoholic drinks in a lifetime because we're worried about the potential impact on lifespan? Are there numbers which translate the ISO test results into a quantifiable increase in wear for a given engine/use case?
    • I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually recalibrate the speedometer it just changes the wheel speed sensor inputs to the computer. The truck still thinks it has stock tires.
    • I apologize, I missed this post, at risk of going off CURRENT TOPIC.   I'm not saying it is BS, I'm questioning how much information is being held back. GM is NOT going to spell out exactly every parameter in the algorithm. Liability, intellectual property, etc.    I'm not naive enough to believe that it is as simple as revolutions, coolant temperature, miles, time; are you?    I don't do irrational either, and boiling the OLM down to four simple values that I could code in an afternoon (I'm not a coder) is irrational - unless it suits your agenda to ignore it.
    • Chris 21 I appreciate your constructive response. !!  😉😉😉   The 6.6 is gas.  Correct me if I’m wrong but by recalibrating the speedo you’re correcting the shift points of the transmission on these trucks.?.
    • That is a huge misconception.     Bigger does not always equal safer.  Modifying does not make it safer either, with exceptions.   Think of this.  Your truck in stock form is capable of emergency maneuvers, proper stopping distances, its handling is designed around the factory wheel/tire packages, etc.   37s and a lift?  Now you've affected your braking distances, handling and ride control.  You've raised your center of gravity higher.  Your front visibility is now obstructed more than stock, same for your rear.  Does it look cooler?  Yes.  Does it now work as good as it did from factory on road?  NO.       As for my mention of exceptions?  Say you had a sedan or crossover.  They typically come with all season tires.  If you swap out for a performance all season or a summer tire, you improve your car by lowering its stopping distance (better braking because of traction) and improve the handling (regular and emergency) of the vehicle.  That is an actually improving modification.  My old 2019 LD 1500, I ran UHP all season tires on 20in wheels in a factory offered size.  It improved all aspects of how it drove over the Duratracs it came with from the factory in the stock 18" tire.
