I have a 2018 Silverado with a 2.5” RC level kit. Occasionally/sporadically when making sharp, slow speed turns (usually when parking) I’ll notice a faint “clunk” coming from the front end. The truck itself has 33k miles (about 6k w/the level kit).

Could this be indicative of a bad ball joint? If so, is it normal for a 2.5” front level to wear a ball joint out that quickly? Thanks

Did you keep the stock UCAs?
If so, your upper control arm ball joint(s) may have expired.
Any level installation should have a UCA replacement for the height of level over 2"

Yes, they are the stock UCA’s. I know I took a gamble keeping them, now I may be paying the price. I’ve heard replacing upper ball joints isn’t cheap, so I’m fearing that price may be high..

It's about $275 for the ones I bought - Motofab UCAs for a three inch Motofab level kit.
I also got the Motofab 1" rear block lift and a 1.5" rear spring lift.
My installer charged $335 for the entire install so, I would think just a UCA chang-out would be the price of the UCAs and, maybe, $150 or so?
EDIT: My installer mentioned he would never install a level without proper new UCAs.
EDIT 2" https://motofablifts.com/i-30558324-17-18-chevy-gmc-silverado-sierra-1500-upper-control-arms.html

" Corrects the ball joint angle for 2.5"-3" front leveling kits "

Price is actually about $290, sorry.

Good to know. If it does end up being a bad upper ball joint, I’ll probably just swap out the stock UCA’s for aftermarket ones.

Like I said, the clunk is really sporadic and only happens once and a while. Is there anything else that could possibly be causing it? I haven’t noticed any uneven tire wear (yet) etc..

Not that I'm aware of in my experience.
As long as your sway bar links and steering links are good, it usually comes down to the UCAs.
See my edits above. :)

Thanks for the links! I have replica 20” GMC Honeycomb wheels, judging by Motofab’s website I’ll need wheel spacers? Aren’t wheel spacers usually frowned upon? Or maybe I’m just regurgitating something I read somewhere..

I have 18" wheels and 35s, virtually no rubbing - didn't know the recommendation for spacers.
I'd try to stay as far away from wheel spacers as I could!
EDIT, again: they only call for 1/4" so that seems reasonable.

I took that gamble and lost..... Now I'm looking at the DirtKing UCA or BDS UCA....

I'm pretty happy with the Motofab UCAs.
Ruining a 3" Motofab level (with 1.5" Zone body lift but that doesn't affect the geometry) and, really, I don't notice any rubbing on 35x12.5x18s.

Your ball joint pressed itself out! Totally legitimate reason for upgrading now!

    • I went through again with a test light and everything checked out.    I suppose it could be the MAF itself but I've tried 3 different sensors, 2 of which were in running vehicles previously (the one in this truck, and the one in the donor truck), as well as a new one I picked up from NAPA. I would just be surprised if all 3 were bad.   EDIT/UPDATE: I swapped in the MAP sensor that was originally with the 2010 PCM, that made the code for map sensor voltage high Go away, and the map sensor seems to read normal with key on engine off (14psi or so), but it still doesn't run and does the same thing as before.
    • In addition to a cell or wifi connection, the infotainment needs to be enabled to download software updates. That's a toggle within the system settings.   But...if the truck was prevented from receiving updates in a past life, missing a bunch of updates may mean it won't go back and download all of those because they're not available or the system is too far out of date.   If a formal recall depends on a software update, the recall for that truck remains in an open status until it's applied. The dealer would need to apply the software update in that instance.   Most updates downloaded and applied via the infotainment aren't recalls/safety recalls, they're enhancements and usability fixes which aren't critical.
    • Recently I've been getting a message, "New Brake Pads Detected. Reset Brake Pad Life?", But I haven't had the pads replaced and the truck only has 28,000 miles. The Brake Pad Life shows Front 64% and Rear 79%. I select NO to resetting the brake pad life and the message goes away but comes back at the nest restart.   I stopped by the dealer and was told that it sounds like a software glitch that would require reprogramming. Even though I have the extended warranty, they tell me that reprogramming is not covered unless a module was actually bad and needed to be replaced. Simply reprogramming is not covered. So, they want $200.00 just to diagnose the problem. If it turns out no bad module, another charge on top of that to do the reprogramming. If the cause was an actual bad module, everything would be covered under the warranty.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Should this issue be covered under the warranty?   Thanks
    • NHT is diesel only, correct.     The GVWRs for NHT on 3/4 ton bring them to the same numbers as many of the 2WD 1 tons.  A crew 4x4 standard 3/4 with NHT is 11,750lbs, a 1 ton same cab/box/4x4 is 12,100lbs.     Hubs and hub bearings are the same for 11.5" and 12" axles.  Housing, diff carrier and ring/pinion are larger for the 12".   All gas use the 11.5" axle, 3/4, 1 ton and 1 ton DRW.
