Z71 shocks

On the Z71 package, it always lists "46mm shock absorbers". What is it that is measured at 46mm?

Also, the Z85 firm ride suspension lists 36mm shocks.

I'm just curious as to what they are measureing.

Dont know???? Is there anything I can measure (Z85)? I am not sure if that measurment they are using is whats on the inside of the shock or what?
