Dead Stereo

The stereo and cd player in my 98 sierra have finally bit the dust. I don't want to upgrade, just get a cheap replacement from an autowreckers. Would the stereo unit with the built in cd player out of a 99 - 2002 gmc/chevy pickup or suv be compatible with my 98 which has pretty much the same stereo, just with the external cd player? I need to replace the cd player as well as the current one is fond of eating disc's and I felt it would be simpler just to go with a single unit. Are there any major differences in the wiring harness or connections that I need to worry about? Any help or pointers would be wonderful as the lack of tunes is driving me insane. Thanks!

Asthetically the stereos look the same from the outside. I have no idea if they would work or not.

Here is an Ebay radio from an S10 that he claims will work on a 95-02 Silverado. Check with your dealer to be sure, because there may be some sort of interface with the BCM.

Ive got one for sale out of my 97 its an am/fm cassette .

 

But ut doesnt have the wiring / setup for a remote cd player

BTW the new body style stereos should work with your 98 (95-02)

 

I just got done swapping a 99 am/fm cassette and the remote cd into my 97 and it works great no reprogramming or anything needed .

Wow, thx for the reply guys! So, would the 99+ stereos /w the built in cd players be just as compatible as the ones with the remote cd players?

yea the plugs should match .

 

are you looking to put in a remote cassette or just do away with the cassette ?

 

Reason i ask is i have a storage pocket thing that goes where the remote cd is that i will give for ya cheap

I'm looking to get rid of the cassette completely. I've never used it...lol, haven't touched a cassette in years so it's wasted space for me.
