Range or AFM delete when still working

Hello Everyone, 

 

My brother picked up a 2007 Sierra recently and it has the LH6 (5.3L with AFM). The truck has roughly 70K miles on it and has been garage kept and oil change max at 7500 miles if not sooner. We removed passenger side valve cover and found that its pretty clean in there. It was owned by a grandpa that doesn't drive anymore.

 

I want to make sure that he is pointed in the right direction. would it make sense to immediately replace all AFM components and run a tune to turn it off (like range or other tuners) or because the motor has been taken care of, would a range work just fine?

The passenger side valve cover is always cleaner than the drivers side because it doesn't have the PCV system.

 

The range product would do what a tune does, so that would be cheaper. To me it's no sense in replacing all the AFM parts if it's not an issue now because who's to say that if you replaced all the parts that those new parts don't just fail for whatever reason too.

Thank you @CamGTP, i was thinking of telling him to do a range but not sure if there was a bigger issue that i was unaware about.
