NEED HELP PLEASE

So im a new GMC owner and i haven't worked on many of them. Ok so when i try to turn my truck over i get a weird kind of a click that sounds like it comes from under the dash. You cant hear it if your outside the truck. The truck in Question is a 1991 gmc 2500 4x4 with the 350c.i.

So the truck  will not start and all you are getting is a click?

Yes that is correct. An i should add that the person i got it from must of lost the keys. So they drilled out the tumbler, well most of it.  An the click sound os coming from under the dash like behind my instrument panel.

Can you arc the starter with a screw driver to see if it turns the engine over?

 

If it does, then it's a wiring issue. If it doesn't it could still be a wiring issue down to the starter from the battery and the frame for the ground.
