Hi, my cousin has a 2012 Silverado 5.3 LC9, check engine light been on and the other day he was driving up a hill with a heavy trailer, and smoke started coming from the engine bay.  Didn't ask if white smoke like water or dark from oil.

I scanned it and it has P0521(oil pressure sensor performance), and P0523(oil pressure sensor circuit high voltage).  The oil pressure gauge reads zero.  Some research tells me that these codes typically come when you need a new oil pressure sensor and a screen that is recessed in the engine.  However I don't know what the smoke would mean.

The truck also has codes P0171(fuel trim system lean bank 1) and P0174(fuel trim system lean bank 2).  Seems like those should be a separate issue from the oil and the smoke happening under heavy load.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Oil pressure sensor is common, and the codes aren't indicating an actual oil pressure problem. So being optimistic would indicate replacing the sensor.

Maybe it got a little hot, seems reasonable if it did run lean. Which indicates another problem.

I'd proceed with caution, carefully check the condition of the oil and coolant for starters.
