2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 5.3L V8 Air Conditioning won’t stay charged

I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 with the 5.3L V8 and over the past month I’ve had to add a bottle of AC Pro every week for a month now because it would blow cold for a day or two then hot again. Well last night I added a bottle and it was blowing cold and still is blowing cold today but now it sounds like my fan won’t shut off. Any suggestions on too why the fan won’t shut off now ?

Fan not shutting off means you have too much refrigerant in the system. 

 

It could be as simple as a Schrader valve or something more serious like a condenser or compressor leak.

 

I'd take it to a professional to have it checked for leaks.  

 

You could also use a AC leak detector kit with UV dye at home and check for leaks yourself if you like.  However, with the high pressure and how much refrigerant you've added, I'd say there is a good chance is won't be a cheap repair.  Likely looking around $1200-$1700.

Refrigerant does wear out or go away. Better (and a lot less expensive in the long run) to do a proper repair.

Imho you should take it into a trusted shop. I own a 2016 Chev Silverado 4 × 4 LT True North edition w/ the 5.3L. I have babied it since brand new. I just took it into my local GM dealer for servicing after noticing the A/C had stopped blowing cold...turns out the A/C condensor was leaking due to a 'bad' factory weld and has since leaked out all of the refrigerant completely, leaving the system totally 'dry'.

It took almost 5 years for the weld to give out lol. That being said, I still have 2.5 years on the extended GM B to B factory warranty, so 100% of the parts and labour are covered on the installation, fill, and test of the new A/C condensor & system.

I've read numerous threads online stating that GM have had issues with the 2014 - 2018 model years of A/C condensors leaking, due to said 'bad' factory welds.

Hopefully this helps, and with any luck (if you have the +2 year extended warranty) you'll be able to 'gitter done for next to nothing at your local GM dealership.

You have a small leak somewhere. Too small to see freon bubbling where the leak is. While you still have pressure in your system. Get a bottle of water and soap mixture and sprays on your AC line, condenser and all AC connectors. Hopefully you can fine the leak. 

 

Sounds like a seal/o-ring is bad. Did you replace any AC parts recently?

The last two times I had a real small leak it was a Schrader valve.

I also have a small leak on my 2015 Sierra A/C ....  doing research, found Class Action against GM for same. I am going to call them after the holiday.....   Crazy,  2015 GMC has a documented Radiator leak and A/C problem. Poorly made truck.

If you don't like a vehicle/manufacturer,  it's simple, you moved on. 

 

Honda dealer near me tried to pull a fast one on me. The alternator bearing had gone out and started making noise. I had additional ground wires connected to the engine block for better grounds (all my lights would dim when stepping on gas). Well because I had additional ground wires. It causing a high flex of power to flow through my car which in return shoot out the bearing inside the alternator (this is what the customer advisor claimed). I stated my case for additional ground wires, he couldn't prove his case, it ended up being cover by warranties. Guess what I did? I traded the Hoe-da and will never recommend anyone to buy a Hoe-da. Learn and move on.
