Squirell problem...

ekbruster

Question

So pop the hood tonfun a red squirell has shredded something in the engine compartment that looks like black and gray insulation.  Hood headliner is all intact, wheel well liners good, all i can figure it is part of the firewall or heat barrier on the transmission?  Can't see anything torn up but appears most of it coming near the can but is spread throughout.  I blew most of it out but worried about potential fire hazzard now?  Wondering if ita safe to drive to the dealer... thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about it. Usually they'll put that stuff around the transmission tunnel under the cab, sometimes under a heat shield, to keep heat from the catalytic converters off the metal. Without it, the floor would get real hot during normal operation, and probably smell like burning paint / plastic if towing, just like our '84 Ramcharger used to do in the day. If you've got some type of misfire going on, then you COULD get hot enough to start igniting things when the cat glows bright.

Just a tip - unless you're under warranty still, steer clear of the dealer.
