"One dealer reported back that two particular HD pickups they ordered were built in February and March of 2021 and have sat in the field since- awaiting parts. As of today, that’s around 8 months."

This statement is absurd hyperbole.  I drive by this field almost daily.  The vehicles started storage within a day or two of Sept 6th.  I saw the first trucks pull in myself.  I took pictures on Sept 9th when it was just starting to be used.  That's less than 2 months at date of article posting.  And if the rebuttle is "well it had to be stored somewhere" then yes, it was.  At GM Truck&Bus or 1/4" mile away at the leased airport parking lot.  Not a muddy field for 8 months.

Does anyone know of every single place GM and other manufactures are storing their vehicles until they get all the parts?  Just curious, because I find it hard to believe just one location is all that is needed considering the amount of trucks that are being build daily.

Hmm.

We (not the dealer he talked to) had two HD's show up just last week.  Both were ordered around March/April this year.

They were between order status 3800 (built) and 4B00 bayed since about July until they shipped 10/25.

The two trucks were invoiced to us around July/beginning of August and we just got them last week.  Typically once its built on the line, dealer's get invoiced shortly after for the vehicle, which in turn means its waiting to be picked up by transport.

So were those trucks the other dealer ordered built and sitting since March?  Not likely.  Were they built say May-July then parked in a lot or field?  Yes.

I wouldn't say the article is "innaccurate".

I know the 6 places they are storing the HDs.  5 of them are large secured parking lots.  1 is a the field in question (with 24 hr lighted security also).  Around 30k vehicles sitting currently last I was told.  I have not counted to confirm that.

1 - airport parking

2 - GM metal center

3 - Adjacent engine plant

4 - Contracted lot east of engine plant

5 - old Sports creek raceway parking

6 - Mt Morris rd at I75 "Mt Williamson"

All non GM lots have been used since early summer except Muddy Mt Williamson started in September.
