Maybe a new Suburban

Here is my situation. :D I love my truck to death and I have it just about where I want it (see sig at bottom) but my wife and I found out that we are going to have our first baby in April. Seeing that my truck is only an extended cab I don't think I'm going to have enough room. Yes I could make it work by moving my dog (95# german shepherd) to the bed and putting a car seat, oh wait, I mean truck seat :fume: in the back for junior or I do believe by law I could put junior in the front seat with the air bag turned off and my dog could still ride in the extended cab where she rides now and when mommy rides along i'll have to decide then who rides in the bed. :) OOORRR I have been thinking of getting a 2500 suburban 4x4. But if I do this I have one major Question????? Will my 285/75/16 tires and 16X8 wheels fit on the suburban??? Unlike other people on this group I had to crank up my torsion bars and cut some sheetmetal to get them to fit on my silverado. does anyone know if they would fit :D

Crongrats on the expected new addition.

The tires and wheels may fit on a 2500 "Burb". I think there would be a better chance of them fitting on a 2500HD crewcab though because they sit a few inches higher than the Suburban.

2500 Suburban's sit about 2 inches taller than a 1500 Suburban...same as pickups.

Larger frame, larger suspension, etc. Same component differences.

When measuring mine, found that LT285/75R16 would fit my 1996 2500 Sub, but on zero offset 8 inch wide rims. Couldn't find any 8" with the right spec's or that liked the looks of.

Ended up with MickyThompson/Alcoa Classic 16x10 with positive 1.5 inch offset (moves rims outwards...less back space).

Some trimming of the rear lower wheel well corner. Still rubs off roading. Have not cranked the torsion bars. PS...if you get F60 option (only $63 bucks when I ordered mine)...gets 1 ton front torsion bars.

Here's pic of my rig, not lifted, LT265/75R16E on 16x10 Alcoa Classic Bens.jpg

I believe that a 2500 Suburban (new body style) does sit higher than a 1500 Suburban, but I don't believe it sits as high as a 2500HD pickup. The reason the 2500HD pickups sit even a little higher than the 2500 pickups/Suburbans and 1500HD trucks is to allow for the Allison transmission option.

Plus a 2500HD is actually a 3500 truck, but single wheel. When they sold a 1500HD, it was actually a 2500 for those who just didn't want to buy a 3/4 ton. Best to look at the GVWR to really tell what it is as the marketing stuff is bogus.

The tunnel on the body of the Suburban is not large enough and the amount of "lift" would raise it's CG way higher. Since the body has much more weight than a pickup, CG too high and tip over would be easier.

Now that Ford has decided NOT to kill off the Excursion, maybe GM will decide to put the Duramax/Allison into the Suburban....competition is a good thing for the consumer.

I don't know about the rims but I just bought an 04 Yukon XL 2500 with the 8.1 an love it. We got the second row captains chairs and really prefer them over the bench. Also makes it easier to get kids in and out of the rear seat. Good luck!
