Bad oil pressure sensor

Hey guys I guess my oil pressure sensor went bad today. Throws the code p0523. I know I have oil and all that. Is it safe to drive around till I get the sensor changed? It’s really cold in my part of the country right now so I’m thinking if it’s safe to drive I’ll just do it in the spring. I have afm disabled with a Diablo sport tuner and it’s been off for most of the time I’ve owned the truck. It’s a 2008 5.3 with 155k miles.ol girl still runs strong. I just want to know if it’s ok to drive with the sensor bad. Thanks guys.

It sounds like you know what your talking about, so I'm not sure why you asked the question - but OK, here it goes:

 

As long as the sensor failure doesn't cause an automatic limp mode or other similar issue, then there is no drawback to driving with the oil pressure sensor disconnected.

 

However If you do develop an actual oil pressure issue without a functional sensor - then you will destroy the engine.

Ouch. I get what you’re saying but I just wanted to make sure it was in to drive with the bad sensor.

as long as you are sure its got op I agree with S pizza. I love the pix he comes up with. I didn't get a pic of it but I had a wrist pin go on 1 of my race cars. I knew the engine was junk so I started it to drive it onto the trailer the piston came out the side of the block and landed on the ground with the engine still running!

I am just curious why you cant change the oil pressure sensor and filter?  I get that its cold, but this is an easy job, and the part isnt that much money.  Hell even a off brand sensor is better then no sensor at all, especially if its cold.  Waiting till spring seems like a long time for this part.  Most cases when these sensors go bad they actually leak oil, so keep an eye on it

Pro-tip, run the engine for a little bit then crawl on top of it. You won't be that cold when the engine bay has some heat in it lol. Also park in the sun if doing it outside.
