Yes, muffler and flapper valve(only had one on my truck in front of muffler) and replaced with Magnaflow straight pipe. Unless you count changing the oil at 1000 miles with Mobil 1 and a Purolator Boss filter!

I knew stock exhausts always choked down engines, and it's nice to see how the engine wakes up by letting it breathe. What muffler did you go with?

NO muffler, just the Magnaflow straight pipe. Resonators are still in place in the back. The 6.2 has real resonators and not the screened junk the 5.3's have.

The stock exhaust has no real restrictions. The size of the pipes can support far more power than the engine makes. Just remember that even a corvette/camaro makes more power with roughly the same size exhaust.

The torque spikes make sense with it not being able to hold a gear. Looks like one run was up in the 390's for torque, that would be more understandable with drivetrain loss factored in.

I have the Corsa Catback system and when my father (mechanic) and I removed the stock exhaust he could t believe the restrictions the 2 valves had on stock exhaust even when open. It was still almost 50% restricted.
IDK the numbers on my truck with 6.2L but it accelerates way better than before.

Awesome numbers by the way. Congrats.

The 2 flapper valves are a huge restriction. If you remove them and add a muffler or straight pipe then yes, I agree. It is almost the same as my Corsa Catback in terms of the bend and diameter.  You just don’t know if you will have the annoying drone or not with straight pipe or adding muffler.

I could possibly believe that horsepower number though it's a little high but that torque number isn't accurate. Plus we can't get the 10 speeds in the correct gear on a dyno with the stock driveshafts and limited wheel speed. That correction factor on that dyno is a little out of whack.

If you add up all three HP and then all 3 torque and divide by 3 to average, 365.2hp, 420.76tq.

Just for those that don't know what the flapper valve looks like inside the pipe. You can see the heavy bottom side at the top of the picture on the OEM muffler after I cut it out of the pipe. That tiny hole is all that is open unless it has enough exhaust pressure to overcome the tension on the spring that is on the outside of the pipe. Even if you do the "hack" to hold the valve open, you still have that huge hunk of metal blocking the flow in the pipe.

Do you have any part numbers or references/links to tubing to replace the section(s) that holds the flappers once they are cut out?  Thanks.

NO, since I cut out the muffler and flapper. If you're looking for just cutting out the flapper, it would be best to take it to a muffler shop. The 6.2 uses 3" pipe. I'm not sure what the 5.3 uses. I'm guessing 2.5".

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
