Long-Term Torque Converter Replacement Feedback for M5U Transmissions

Recommended Posts

I have a 2017 Sierra 1500 with the L86 and the M5U.  TSBs for the fluid exchange procedures were done at 25K-mi. and 45K-mi. intervals.  The truck now has 85K-mi. and the TCC shudder came back at 50-MPH.  Fortunately, I have a warranty that paid for a new torque converter which was installed this morning.

I'm looking to get feedback from those of you who already have replacement torque converters to see if any issues occurred since replacing.  I don't pull, and had it not been for the 2 prior fluid exchanges and the TCC shudder, would have changed the trans. fluid every 50K-mi. anyway.  I'm very particular on maintenance and never pull with the truck.

Any feedback on "replacement" TCCs is appreciated.  Thanks!
