I love the look of the oem led headlights with the led strip drl's.  Not a fan of the price of them though as I've been considering changing out my stock halogen housings for them.  I am currently running lasfit led bulbs in high and low beams and really like them, but absolutely hate the fact that my low beams are running at reduced power during the day as drl's causing some flicker and I'm sure will reduce the life span of the bulbs.  Most of the time I am good about flipping the auto lights off as soon as I start the truck so that the drl's do not even come on, however when my wife drives the truck she doesn't remember to do that.  I've seen gen5diy has a wire harness kit that moves the drls to the parking lights that I thought about going with (would be much cheaper than changing over to oem led housings).

My question(s) are in regards to the oem headlights.  What kind of life expectancy is there on the led lights?  What happens when they burn out?  Do you have to buy a whole new headlight housing, or just the led module part?  These are just a couple of things I thought about while considering making the swap.  I have a buddy with a body shop that will get them for me at cost, so been thinking hard about pulling the trigger.  If I do change over, I still have to get a $350 converter harness for them to work also; so either way I'd be hitting up gen5diy for either conversion harness, or at minimum the drl converter harness to move them to the parking lights (if I were to keep the halogen housings w/ lasfit bulbs).

From what I understand the OEM LED headlight assemblies aren't meant to have the lights changed, as they are supposed to last 15,000+ hours. If something does go wrong, you'd have to replace the entire assembly though.

That's kind of what I thought.  That part doesn't sound very appealing.

And who is this friend you speak of?

Was thinking if the "premiums" placed on these were to come back down, I'd do the swap later this winter. I do like the lazfits better than halogen, especially the turn signals. I usually run with my lights on with longer drives anyway, so I haven't noticed whether I get any flicker in DRL mode. I'm keeping my miles down, so I don't mind adding the upgrades now, instead of trading it in.

same here, mine isn't daily driven, so I don't mind doing some upgrades; just trying to convince myself this one is worth it in the long run.

Yeah those look pretty good.  For the price, I may as well go with the oem led’s though. Looks like only thing to gain by going with those would be the sequential turn signal.

Gen5diy had the halogen to led conversion harness on sale so I went ahead and ordered it.  Guess I'm making the swap to oem led headlights.

Be sure to post pictures when you're done installing them. And your impression of the light difference. I am still debating which to get. I can't get the OEM ones at cost so I was thinking of going ebay. Night driving is horrible with the halogens.

Will do.  It will probably be a bit.  Haven’t had my buddy order the lights yet.  Hopefully the light output is Atleast as good as my current setup with the Lasfit led bulbs.  I’m happy with my current light output; I’m just switching to get the led drl’s.

If you are just looking for the light signature. They also do make a dual led instead of a triple, they also leave out the sequential turn signals and leave it with halogens. They come in about $1200 instead of $1800 dollars.

I'm still leaning toward the sequential turn signals cause of the cool factor and how they switchback. However Lastfit does have switchback led I could install on the cheaper set.

Finally, been waiting and waiting for aftermarket LED's to come out.  I wonder if GoRecon will follow suit soon.

yeah they don't seem bad.  If I hadn't gotten the gen5 harness on sale I'd probably still consider these.  I'd like a nice set of blacked out led signature taillights as well, but haven't seen a descent set offered.

installed the oem LED headlight assemblies a few weeks ago.  Man what a pain just to swap headlights with all the front end parts that have to be removed.  The light output is not as good as the Lasfit bulbs I had in the Halogen housings, but I love having the LED signature DRL's.  I still have all 6 on high lights via my Gen5 foglight harness, so that helps.  Sorry no pics; not really much to see, everybody knows what the headlights look like.  Currently working on High Country grille swap.  Waiting on colormatched parts to come back from painter.  I'll post up pics once it's all done.

So if a guy just wanted brighter light output you would just recommend putting in these lastfit ones into the stock housings? Is that an easy swap? Do you have a link to the ones you used?

thanks
