Don't use Google Maps very much as usually use OEM Nav. However, one of the things I do not have with OEM is the speed limit shown on screen. And in previous truck, I used that feature a lot (aftermarket Nav).

Today, used G. M. for a bit, both with and without a destination entered, and discovered the speed limit will show when en route after entering a destination, but will not show if just routine driving and a destination is not entered.

So, my question is, can something in settings or elsewhere be changed to always have the speed limit showing. Seems weird it has the capacity to show speed limit, but only with a destination entered. Tried searching but with negative results.

Hey Marpel, It is listed in my manual on page (125), 126 under DIC display options. It says this is available on midlevel and up level trims.

I have it on my truck. What is your trim level?

Hello Michael621,

Thanks for responding.

I am not talking about the speed limit shown in the DIC display, as I have asked about that before and have discovered I do not have the appropriate trim level (SLE).

What I am referring to is the infotainment screen where the Google Maps navigation map is shown. If G. M. is on, but not showing a destination route, the speed limit is not shown on the screen. However, if G. M. is active, with a destination route set, there is a small speed limit icon (looks like a typical roadside speed sign) in the upper right corner that shows the speed limit for the current location. I'm presuming this info is somewhere in the Google Maps data base and  just wondering if there is a way to get this to display all the time while G.M. is on, regardless if a route has been set.

Oh, got it. I use CarPlay with Apple maps and the speed limit info will only display when a destination is entered (navigating) like you say, and no option to turn it on otherwise. From what you say, GMaps is the same. Sorry, no other information from me anyhow..

Thanks Michael,

Seems there may not be a way to have it available all the time. It was always on in my (aftermarket) Nav in my previous truck and, as I never had Nav before I just assumed it was available like that in all Nav systems.

Thanks Tommy,

Initially I was trying to only use the OEM Navigation as I didn't want to use my phone (sucks power so always having to plug it in and I go places without cell service). However, when I do use CarPlay, I will try Waze. Maybe just have to get used to always plugging the phone in.

Tommy,

Tried using Waze, but could not get the speed limit to show. Only the speed of the vehicle will show (in the upper right). Went into settings and could find speed as well as speed limit but the only one I could activate/deactivate is speed of the vehicle, could not do anything with speed limit, even though it was listed. I must be missing something. Will have to read up on it.

And, the other thing I found is Waze is difficult to turn off. I tried it for a bit then turned it off (at least I thought I did as it went to icon only) and turned on the OEM Nav. However, the Waze voice kept playing in the background (and repeatedly kept warning me of fog ahead). Have not had the same issue turning off Google Maps.

Have found it hard to turn off when not in car play, but seems ok when connected. Had the same problem when I had waze and google maps running on same destination, could here both guidance talking. If I remember right, the speed limit shows a speed limit sign that turns red when you are doing over it with your speed in red. Will look at it closer today.

Seems a bit of a weird way to find out the posted speed limit, but at least I now know it can be done (but officer, I was just checking to see what the speed limit is....).

Tommy, thanks very much for checking. Much appreciated.
