Friday, I went to move my truck out of the garage and after I started it, I could not move the shifter lever. I tried adjusting the steering column and wiggling it around and no go. I then shut the engine off and got a message shift to park. I still could not move the shifter and when I opened the door, the system would not shut down. I had to unhook the battery. I let it sit with the battery unhooked for an hour and tried again, still no go. Right now, it is at the dealer, and he cannot look at it for a few days. Anyone else had this happen? I did a google search and it seems like this has been a GM problem for quite some time with various causes. Truck is a 2019 Sierra 1500 with only 19,000 miles.

Just a quick update to my shift to park message. I contacted the dealer and they had to have it towed. They finally got it in the shop and determined that the BCM was defective and ordered a new one. The truck was supposed to be finished today but for some reason they cannot get the BCM to accept the programming for the mileage from the old module. Hopefully, I will get it back on Monday. They opened a trouble ticket with GM tech. They said the truck starts, runs, shifts and drives but they must get the mileage programmed before they can release it.  Also, since I mentioned that I was experiencing the transmission shudder that they will flush and service the transmission under warranty. Got my fingers crossed.

An update. I had previously installed a Denali dash cluster, and it was not allowing the BCM to accept the mileage.   I had the dealer switch my instrument cluster back to my stock one and then he was able to program the mileage into the BCM. He then reinstalled the Denali cluster and it also accepted the programming so all is well. I am really glad I bought the extended warranty on this truck. All I had to pay was the deductible.
