If it’s a cv axle that isn’t a suspension component though

Yes it is part of the suspension. Leveling kits make the CV axles operate beyond the specs that they are designed to do. The dealer will see the leveling kit and deny warranty on the CV axles.

My 22 Elevation is doing the same thing since 10k miles. I have a 3” leveling kit new UCA and 23 trail boss sway links (2” longer than stock elevation) but mine is so inconsistent that can can’t get it to happen when I try to. Sometimes it’s every couple days sometimes it’s every couple months. The only constant is it happens in reverse going slow while turning the wheel. Happens more turning left than right.

This is certainly not what we like to hear, Jason Rosenzweig.  Please know, customer satisfaction is extremely important to us. Our team would be more than happy to take a closer look into the concerns with your 2022 GMC Sierra Elevation having a popping noise when turning. To do so, please send an email to [email protected] with ATTN: Jason Rosenzweig/GM Trucks in the subject line.

My 2023 Silverado LT 4WD has done this from day 1 with only 7 miles on the odometer.

Primarily in reverse when turning wheels but more specifically I hear it when also compressing suspension at same time like backing out of my driveway which is on a slight incline.

I thought maybe it was some control arm or other suspension bushings settling but it hasn't stopped.

It's not as bad as a sway bar link noise or bad control arms but it is definitely there.

Checked toque on everything suspension related (control arms, struts, sway bar) and they seemed fine.

Maybe it is something with a CV axle ... seems early on for that to be an issue but hey, my new truck as been leaking engine oil since day 1 so a bad CV axle wouldn't surprise me.

My 2021 Silverado 4WD started a single pop or thud noise just at full turns left or right at about 30K miles.  The pop noise consistently happens as I back out my driveway up very slight grade and turn near full lock.  The pop noise seems to have a pattern of happening on left side, then right side, then left side, as you can’t seem to make it happen two times in a row.  It seems like something in the front suspension shifts one direction, then back on alternate LH or RH turns.  The pop noise also happens on full lock turns Left or Right while moving forward and usually needs a light grade to make it happen. The pop or thud can be heard and felt. The vehicle must be moving and will not happen during full lock turns in park or when the vehicle is on a hoist.  GM dealer investigated found nothing.  Said noise was from hitting full lock stops during turns, that’s BS.  Took it to retired mechanic in home shop and he too couldn’t find the source after checking multiple things out.  Concerned my alignment toe might be impacted and cause wear on my tires.

Any advice on root cause?

If everything is tight (ball joints, rack bushings, sway bar links, etc.), have it aligned and see what happens.

What did this end up being caused by?
