So I am looking at some wheels and tires.  Raceline Ryno 17 inch with 35x 12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT.  I can't decide between the 0 offset or the -12.  I would love to have some input on this.  They have the -12 in stock but the 0 is backordered.  Would the -12 even be noticeable from the 0?  Any input is appreciated and any pictures would be greatly appreciated!  By the way my truck has a 3.5 Cognito Coilover lift with new UCA's

I vote for 0.  Obviously it also depends on the width of the wheel and the tire size, but in most cases -12 sticks out significantly.  With wide wheels and tires it can stick out A LOT.  I have 315/70R17's on 8.5 wheels with 0 offset and the tread edge is dead even with my fenders.

The difference is 12mm. I have -12 on mine and they stick out a little. If you want a more a flush look, wait for the 0.

The 0mm offset should only be on the 8.5" wide and the -12 on the 17x9. But your looking at .25" diff on the backspace and maybe a little wider tire balloon on the 17x9's.  

 

I'm in same boat as most of the 17x8.5's I like are backordered. I like the clutch from raceline

Thanks guys- I think that I may pull the trigger on the -12's.  I like the look of those on yours PureZ71.

Since PureZ71's suspension and tire/wheel setup is pretty close to mine, this will make a pretty useful comparison.  I had to dig through his build thread cause he didn't post his wheel specs but it looks like he's on 18x9's with a -12 offset and 35" tires.  Mine are 17x8.5's with a 0 offset also on 35" tires.

One difference is that I have the AIR design flares, but they aren't real big.  But I think this does a good job of showing the difference in poke between 0 and -12.

-12 will stick out about 2". I needed a 3/8" spacer to clear the brake calipers. 

 

Im running 20x10 -12 with 275/60R20 tires (factory size).

I have -12 and i like the look but on the Seirra it will out you into issues with rub if you up the tire size. i kinda wish i went with 0mm now.

-12 will require way more front fender work to not rub. I have owned four T1 trucks and had to do a LOT of trimming and metal bending when I ran 18x9 et-15 BC Forged wheels as opposed to my previous Rotiforms in 17x8.5 et0 and current BC in 18x9 et0. Current 2023 AT4 all I did was pull the fender liner brackets out, which I did preemptively because I can do it with my eyes closed after all these T1s.

see enough trucks running around with chewed out fenders due to fatties on the offsets that all done with that nonsense, these things are way too expensive now to be beating on them like that, I went from stock 20's with the 33"x11" to 17's with 33"x10" LT 10 ply snowflake at's and dropped 4 lbs a corner, added 1.5" sidewall to retain ride, and 0 offset but skinny tires so I stayed inside the fender but it still pushed the tires out a bit past the stock set up, worked out perfect, dropped 4 lbs a corner to boot, get killer mileage and my actual off-road and snow traction is way better...fatty's no more

    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
